Black Carrera GT

Hey folks. Here is a black Carrera GT that has not been maintained and has been tracked. Nothing has been done to it since it has left the dealer.

What I am listing is what I have carried out so far from 16:00-20:00.

Hand washed wheels with APC, brake calipers still have to be detailed.

APC Wash

Clayed with 3M Cleaner Clay

Wash with Megs Deep Crystal

Heavy scratches were hit with rotary @ 1500-1700rpm with Edge Green pad and 3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Compound. Some scratches needed more than one pass.

Rest of car was hit with rotary @ 1300 with 3M Ultrafina pad and 3M Perfect-It Ultrafina SE

Second time I have used the new 3M Ultrafina and it works great.

That was the end of my 12 hour day. Did other details from 8:00 to 15:00 then went mobile for this one. Tomorrow I am final polishing and applying wax/sealer, then doing the interior.

What should I use? I have at my disposal Megs #16, Natty's Original, Poorboy's EX-P, and Collinite #476s. Should I use the EX-P then top with a wax?

After pics should be up tomorrow or the day after. Any input about the next steps would be much appreciated.

Yes it was all purpose cleaner. After first rinse I spray APC on whole car then wash with a soap solution.

Really? I've never heard of that. How does it work?

It actually sounds like a pretty good pre-cleaner to me.

The APC I use is pretty concentrated so I mix it at 70/30 water to cleaner. It helps to get the grime off before you clay.

When you say some of the deep scratches took more than one pass, are you suggesting that some of the deep scratches came out with one pass...cause that would be pretty amazing? If so, maybe I need to come learn from you (just kidding).

Nice turnaround by the way!

I'd like to know your thoughts on the new 3M Ultrafina on Porsche paint which can be a bit soft.

Dying to see the after pics!! I too have a black Porsche... but not the GT. 997 C2S..

Regards,

Deanski

The APC I am using is just some generic stuff I get from my distributor its called Slap Shot. I have been using it for two years and it works great.

Most of the deep scratches took more than one pass but there were a couple that only needed one. The pic of the scratches before the rear wheel were just brutal.

I have been using 3M for awhile now but so far that new Ultrafina works great. I performed an alcohol wipe the first time I used it and it really does work well.

I think I was heading in the direction of the #16 myself thanks Scottwax for confirming my choices.

Thanks for the comments guys. I can't wait till morning to finish her up.

The owner of that car ought to be shot for letting such a beauiful automobile get in that shape >:

The real crime would be keeping it detailed and in the garage instead of out on the track.

You guys would be happier if some Hollywood producer's wife drove it up and down Rodeo Drive as long as it was swirl-free.

There are waxers and racers. Waxers die of boredom and old age.:nana:

What does taking it on the track have to do with destroying the finish like this car? Plenty of people here drive the pants off their cars and keep them in better than new condition. Doesn't have to be either or.

i agree with you to a degree. i'm glad the guy is driving it like it's supposed to be driven rather than babying it and keeping it pristine in the garage.

i go to the track with my motorcycle. stuff happens when you track a vehicle. the transport and activity of tracking something means that something is going to happen.

at least he's getting it detailed now.

This is what happens on the race track without hitting anything. If you think you can spend any amount of time on a race track with other cars and keep your car in "better than new condition", you are sadly mistaken.

Why do you think EVERY INDY Car, Champ Car, NASCAR stocker, Formula 1 car, etc. is repainted after each race? Are they using the wrong LSP?

If you can keep your car pristine on the track, you are runing parade laps. If you are worried about your paint on the track, you are driving too slow.
