Black car, sunny days, wax and everything else

Greetings from a new member :wavey

I have a black car and have been washing it once a week since I have got it. I have noticed two fine scratches, I do not know if I caused them but I am very careful how I wash the car. use micro fibre towel, a good wash mitt and ph balanced washing liquid. Well i guess I am not a complete beginner.

Here are a few facts before I ask some questions::

1: My car is new and the paint work has been kept clean

2: I park in the sun (San Jose , CA) during the day on work days

3: I waxed about 3 months ago using Mothers Carnuba Wax and water still beads as I wash

4: I have no swirl marks (as far as I can see) and I have been washing and drying the car with the mitt and the towel moving in one direction only.

Here is the question I have:

I want to remove the remaining wax, prep the paint work and apply 2 layers of wax so the paint work is better protected from myself washing the car every week. I also want to keep it well wax and polished so I get best protection. I still have a good amount of Mother Carnuba wax, Mothers pre-wax cleaner, and Mothers polish (the 3 step system). I also have Zymol Concours Wax. I have a good selection of micro fibre towels and a miracle towel for drying as well as California Water Blade. I do not want to go and spend more money unless it is absolutely necessary. On the other hand I would like to keep my car in top shape. Please tell me if I should buy any other products before I go ahead and put 2 new layers of wax, try to remove the fine sratches I mentioned. Also any advice on how to go about doing this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Frank.

AS I have read here, it seems that some people attempt the best of both worlds... put down a polymer, and once it is protected, top with a carnuba to give it some depth. I am now carnuba only (Griots applied with a PC) but have purchased and am planning on a layering of Klasse AIO, SG, and Pinnacle Souveran. We'll see...... My starting point is not bad, but perhaps I can do better.

Just another thought.....good luck!

I like BOS but it is a bit difficult to get off.... I use a spray of Speed Shine to assist. Nice depth, reasonable protection for a carnuba product.

Thanks for all the welcome and help.

I know the carnuba wax I put on must be wearing very thin by now. So I want to do this as soon as I can. I am going to use the pre-wax cleaner to strip the wax off and them put a freash layer on. My question is how often and how do I refresh the wax? Just apply another layer every 6-8 weeks?

I would renew it once every 1-1.5 months. Remember, healthy (new) clearcloat beads water too....so it's tough to gauge durability going by that alone. Also consider the drop in gloss and slickness. For more durability between waxings, try a synthetic polymer system...........

Yeah I think you are right about the clear coat.

I was thinking may be I can put a layer of carnuba wax and a layer of synthetic wax on top of that. Or should it be the other way around, synthetic first, carnuba second?

So what synthetic polymer system would you recommend?

and I feel your pain! Both of our cars are black, and soft German BMW paint to boot! The one big thing to watch out for is bird cr@p and water spots. If left for even a short period of time in the sun, they will etch in to the clear and be almost impossible to get out. I keep a bottle of Meguires Final Inspection and a couple of micro fibers in the trunk for emergencies. As a matter of fact, I had to use it today. That's what I get for parking under some power lines during lunch.:scared

I've tried a number of waxes and have found that those that don't leave a white residue in the cracks is easiest on black. I'm currently using Zaino Bros. and love the smoooooooooth feel and shine. I personaly feel that you can't wax too much and half of the fun is experimenting with different products until you find that one magic combination:xyxthumbs

Hey Steve I guess you are on the bmwplanet.com as well?

You are beginning to worry me, I have had a birdbomb on the rear wing last two days. And I was little slow drying to car last time I washed it I think I have lots of water spots on one side  On Sunday I will be probably wash the car and see what damage done.
