Black 68 Charger+ Durango+swirls+dog hair=? *56* NOOOOOO

GOT PREP?
This weekend turned out to be quite interestingâ€â€both cars were Mopar powered, both had excellent facilities for a detailer (huge garges, one was even climate controlled  ), and both needed some serious attention. Where they differed was in the type of defects…..

First up was 68 Charger with the most unbelievable paint job that I have ever seenperfectly straight body, very little orange peel, and zero flaws in terms of integrity of the paint.

Here’s what I started with, the car is washed and sitting in an air conditioned garage. How bad could this be? How could this take 9 hours to detail? This is why a picture of a car in the shade shows NOTHING.

I knew the paint was soft, and I knew how bad it wasI had already seen it and evaluated twice. Once when I detailed his wife’s Charger, and once when I came by to do a “test spot on this vehicle. I did find out that the paint is a PPG system, but the painter told the owner that the last two coats contained both clear AND black.

Here’s what the lights showed….

Almost done taping here:

This customer is a great guy to detail for. This car is his baby, he has had it since he was 18, then finally restored itit is his baby. I appreciate him trusting me enough to work on the carit was a big deal to him(and rightfully so).

How soft was the paint?

I polished the car with Hi-Temp Heavy cut via PC @speed 6,

Menzerna final polish II via PC @speed6.

I then wiped the paint down with Z6

Sealed with two coats of Zaino Z5PRO (ZFX enabled).

Lastly, I wiped the paint down with Z8

Yep, no rotary. This paint was soft that while polishing it via PC took a smidge longer, IMO it was worth it to keep the maximum amount of paint on the car.

The paint on the right has been polished with HT HC only, the left is untouched.

Here’s a shot of the motor for you guys—I have no idea what the mods/specs are, but I belive it makes about 550+ @ the crank, runs 11’s in quarter off the gas, and that’s a 250 shot of the NAAAAAAAAAAWZ.

Next up was Dodge Durango that needed a little help. The interior had a lot of dog hair from a recent road trip that involved hauling three Collies to Virginia. :D The exterior had been buffed before and someone left holograms all over it.

After—The exterior was buffed with Hi-Temp heavy cut via rotary @1500 RPM’s, Menzerna Final Polish II via PC @spped 6, then sealed with Meguiars Gold Class(new formula), then I wiped down with OCW by hand. The interior was vacuumed, steamed, and then shampooed/extracted with APC 10:1, the vinyl and leather was treated with Amsoil vinyl and leather protectant per customer’s request.

Sweet work on these details, esp. that Charger! Wow, what a ride, huh!? Must have been a fun (although long) detail.

Thanks for those pics showing how HC finishes out by itself on the Charger. Those were a big help. It looks like the HC really does finish out really nicely on its own, considering the level of defect removal it is able of correcting. I have some HC due to me today from UPS! :D

Thanks for your time and effort to post these!

Mike :)

Thanks man, glad to share. :D

The ability of the HC to remove the defects AND finish out so nicely on paint his soft speaks volumes about its abilities as a polish IMO.

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!

Those outside afters of the Charger are just purely black glass. Man, that finish looks absolutely stellar!

Excellent work on the Durango, too. The paint looks incredibly deep and reflective and the interior looks a million times better sans the pet fur.

That black Charger looks excellent! Your choice/application of products speaks much about your quality!

Great job on the durango too.

That Charger got me hot! Excellent work.

I bet HC ate those swirls. I *love* it on soft paint; it's like watching an eraser go over the surface of the car. :)

Couldnt agree more on that one. That thing is absolutely flawless. And that engine shot. Thing is a beast. A line from the fast and the furious, "The car has so much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line." Amazing.

Really amazing stuff, right? I hadn't used it in so long that I actually forgot how well it works. I am glad that we started talking about the HC in that other thread started by RAG--really made me want to dust off the HC--thank goodness I did!!

Great work! The black is inceadible...so deep! Can I ask how you vacuum to get all that dog hair out? I have a bulldog with short hair and it can be such a pain to get it out of the weave in the carpet. Any hints?

This was long hair--short hair IME is *much* harder to deal with. For this I just kept vacuuming, and vacuuming, and vacuuming!! :D With short hair I find that if I vacuum up the majority, then mist a little APC on the carpet as I am vacuming, that it will help break the charge and remove the hair. The Meguiars pet hair/lint brush is an *amazing* tool, as is the SM Arnold K-9 mitt (basically a velcro "hook" mitt). I have also used APC, then wiped with latex gloves, then vacuumed the clumps of hair collected. Sometimes it takes a combination of all of those methods--if all else fails, break out the duct tape. :D

Thanks guys!!

I always put an blanket down before he gets in but the duct tape idea has worked many many times!! He's too short to jump over the back seat (and I am a dedicated Autopian) so my truck would NEVER as bad that Durango. Thanks for the advice.

My only comment would be for the owner of the Charger to change those wheels. BORING!

I don't think he's much concerned with them--he wants it to be fast. If it looks good, that's just an added benefit. :D
