BLACK 05 Tahoe, fresh from the stealership *56K NO WAY

EBPcivicsi

GOT PREP?
This truck was purchased from a local Chevrolet dealership—it’s an 05. The paint had the worst water etching that I have ever seen, not only in depth, but also in abundance. The swirls were also very bad, some of the them were deep enough to be considered scratches. The paint was fairly hard, but we were able to return the paint to about 90%.

The process was:

Wash

Hi-Temp extreme cut/optimum polish @1500 RPM’s with a Meguiars polishing pad

black fire finishing polish via PC @ speed6 (SM Arnold green polishing pad)

Z6 wipe down

Z5PRO (ZFX)

Z8

Tires are dressed with Meguiars all-season dressing, the trim wears NXT tech protectant

No wheel well dressing per customer request

You can see how deep it was here.

Under the halogens, the paint was so marred that the light was refracted in almost every direction…

Wow, what an amazing transformation! Nice work. That water etching shot actually looks like cloud reflections.

Was that just delivered as a new vehicle like that? I know this is oft-discussed here, but it's almost incomprehensible the way dealers treat expensive new vehicles and then deliver them as "new".

Outstanding comeback!!!

The only time I have seen spots that bad was when they add fertilizer to the sprinkler water. Man, they get baddddddd.

Did the compounding stage grab badly? I've noticed that with deep etchings, I find the rotary hard to control.

Great work as usual

Why did the owner not want the wells dressed?

Thanks man, the owner is about to visit family in Louisiana over the weekend--they have gravel driveways.

Sean, I have never heard of that--interesting. The were all over the truck, so I suspected sprinklers, but it muist have been *repeated* exposure. I guess whoever owned the truck before him worked in office park with sprinlkers--daily exposure. :(

EDIT** I didn't notice that it grabbed per se, but they were *very* difficult to remove. Some of them were just decresed, not removed--they were like craters in the clear.

Setec, the car has about 5K on the clock, it was a used car.

Stunning a dealership would sell a black vehicle in such horrible condition-although their detailing efforts probably made it worse.

Outstanding comeback on it! :)

Nice job with the full sun final shot without catching the edge of a cloud and diffusing the light. A true full sun shot! . ;)

Trust me, it wasn't intentional. I just did a test spot, pulled it out, shot the picture, then pulled it back in--my camera skills suxor for sure. :D

Thanks man...

The swirls and etched marks sure looks horrible and you really did a fantastic job in bring the paint work back to life again, a big thumb up for you :bigups .

You did an oustanding job removing the swirls, My question is how is that you can acheive an out come as you did without removing any CC.

1) Is it ok to make as many passes as it takes or is there a point/ time when you say this is as good as it gets and leave it alone?

If you are *removing* swirls, then you are removing clear--no two ways about it.

There is definitely a point when you have to "say uncle."

Great job as always... :2thumbs:

Were you able to get rid of the water etchings completely? The reason why I am asking this is because my car(black) has alot of water etchings...Ive tried everthing including the HTEC/OP combo x3(w/ rotary) on the horizontal surfaces with a cuting pad..I guess in this scenario westand would the only option left huh?

Most of the etching came out, but some areas where I couldn't really buff (like around door handles, in creases, etc) still had some etching. There also quite a few that were just too deep to be removed--at least I didn't feel comfortable removing them.
