Bird Droppings Problem

I have a spot on my hood where bird droppings have etched the paint. I am not sure how long it was on there, I just noticed it when I backed the car out today. I don't usually drive the car during the week. My question is, what are my options. I tried Klasse AIO and Meguairs Scratch X with no relief. I am able to feel the etching with my finger. I don't have a PC, but might consider buying one if that would help me. I am thinking that I am going to have to step to at least SSR 2.5 or 3. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

I feel your pain. I have a black metallic S60 and when birds strike it almost always etches if I don't get it off right away. I suspect you will really need the PC. I've had really good success with SSR 2.5 an aggressive pad (yellow) and several passes may be needed at high speed, either 5 or 6. I do have SSR3 but never had to break it out if I'm persistent and patient with 2.5. Of course you'll have to follow up with your sealant or LSP after polishing.

If you don't have a PC this is a good opportunity to justify the expense. However this combination won't guarantee successful complete removal on the toughest stains but it is a smart next step to try and your new tool will be useful in many other ways too.

Since you have already tried a good chemical cleaner and a somewhat abrasive (by hand) polish, I think the next step would be some sort of machine polishing. Hopefully it hasn't etched the paint too deep. Sometimes etching can get to a point beyond repair and the only options are to live with the etching or have the panel repainted.

I think I might hae to go with this. I am going to do everything I can to not have to re-paint. They never do as good of a job. Besides, this is a great excuse to get PC and some Poorboys.

I am going to go with the PC. What pads should I get. I am going to get the Poorboys line of polishes. I don't want to hurt the paint, but the mark is pretty bad. Any suggestions o combinations you have used that produced good results would be appreciated. Also, if I buy the PC, are there any other things I should get along with it that I will need? Thanks.

I had a few bird droppings etched onto the roof of my car, I had it removed by ssr2.5 followed by ssr2 using cotton towel :)

So, you didn't have to use a PC to get rid of them? If you had luck this way, I might try it and then step up to the PC if I need to.

DId you try anything else to remove them and have no luck like me?

I tried AIO, Pro Polish, SSR1 as well as Adam's Revive - no luck .
Used SSR 2.5 , I had to do a few passes , don't be alarm with the slight hazing, SSR took care of it ( I'm not sure if SSR 1 would have done the job, any comment?) ;).. If it's just a spot on the hood, it would be overkill to bring out the big gun (PC) :detective

So you did do it by hand. I am thinking that I might get the polish first and try it. If it does not work then get the PC. I have a birthday coming up and I believe I could justify the exspense.

I don't have a PC but a Makita9227...I'm really afraid of using it on my bimmer:eek: , so I had to resort to old elbow grease .I was working out of town so my car was with my mum, not sure how long the bird poo was left there...when I washed the car I noticed the bad etching..pretty pissed off (with the bird not my mum haha).. Wish I was in the States, I would have sent you some SSR2.5.

ps: You 'may' be able to get rid of the hazing by scratchX . The PC may also be a good investment from what I've read ;)

I recommend the Sonus SFX pads, the velcro is bullet proof. Here's a link to a starter kit.
