Well, like so many others, I was disheartened to see the mess on my new car (Audi RS4, daytona grey-metal flake). No more than 10 minutes on the car, and after cleaning it using proper methods, it etched the clear (nickel sized). I proceeded to use a microfiber and Klasse AIO, nothing. I used Meguiars Scratch-X and microfiber, nothing. So i purchased a Porter Cable and ordered some CCS Pads (both 4" and 6", light cut to final) and flex plates from Proper Auto. Used the 4" inch white polishing pad with JW Prime, 2k speed, nothing. Tried it with the 4" orange light cut pad, 2k speed, nothing. Made my way back in, did more research and came across the videos on autogeek.net (Porter Cable Videos, sub menu: bird etching) and learned that I should have been using a higher speed and perhaps something a bit more strong than an AIO. So I drove to the local auto supply shop and purchased a bottle of Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover (light cut, 3/10). I used that, a clean 4" orange ccs light cutting pad at at 4k=5k speeds (with 10lb+ of pressure, made sure to slowly work it in) and low and behold, success. I followed it up with a 4in white polishing pad, Jeff Workstatt's Acrylic Prime, then JWT (w/MF) and it looks as though I was able to remove 90% of the damage. I was happy to see the improvement and felt that I should stop there and count my blessings. Perhaps I'll spend a little bit more time on it to make it perfect but I'm quite pleased with my results so far.
