bird doodoo won't stop etching!!! even after scratch x!!

i got these 2 bird doodoo on my hood.. after washing it last friday.. i noticed it had etched and left marks about size of quarters..



i used scratch x on it and the etching dissapeared completely.. and then sunday.. i noticed the etching came back!! i scratch x again and it went away..



today after parking all day in the sun.. guess what.. back again..



i read about how bird poo can etch even after cleaned off.. and we must use baking soda to neutralize it..



can any one give me exact instructions on using baking soda?? do i need to rub it in??? won't it scratch the paint??



how do i put it on to the paint.. spray bottle?? how long do i let it sit to neutralize..

I'm not sure the etch didn't just get saturated with the solvents/oils from the scratch-X, which then dried out leaving the etch visible again. I've been snookered like that plenty of times. Sometimes even QD will make them disappear temporarily.

Agreed - they etching was never removed, which is no surpise.

im beginning to wonder that too.. i used scratch x and with only minimal effort and one application they dissapeared..



also i don't know if its etching or hazing.. it looks like a milky cloudiness in the clear coat..

Hazing from the abrasive particles. No doubt.



And that's good to know...if I hever need a really good filler product to hide something for a short while, scratch-x might be the ticket?

i guess but i just cant be sure if it was just hidden by the scratch x or is the acid reactivated over the period of two day??



i can't imagine the scratch x taking two days to show doodoo stain again??

Have you actually tried the product before posting your opinion on it?



ScratchX needs to be worked against the paint in the area of the defect till it turns almost clear, if used like this, it is a very good product to use by hand. But, it will likely take several applications to remove deeper defects.
 
Using baking soda...make a wet slurry paste and just dab it on the area, don't rub as it is abrasive. Rinse off with a hose after a couple minutes.
 
I've spot treated etchings with a bit of rubbing compound, followed by the ScratchX. Does wonders in that order. ScratchX on it's own has only yielded moderate results on etchings, in my personal experience.
 
I seem to have the same problem.I parked under some trees for shade(last time I'm making that mistake) and found 7 to 8 bird bombs the worst being on the hood.I removed the poo with tissue soaked for about 1 minute with Last Touch and still managed to install some minor scratches.With the poo removed visible dark stains could be seen,the car is black Honda paint.The poo could have cooked say a max of 5 hours (18 holes) on the car paint.I took the stains/scratches out with OP and a rotary, the finish was perfect.I didn't wipe down with IPA or anything and just covered the polished areas with SG (1:3) thinking I'll do the whole car when I have the time.



7 days later the stain re-appeared.This time I took it out with #80,I had some on a pad.The stain came out real easy.I left the worked areas on the hood as is to see if the stains will reappear when either 1) the oils dry up revealing the stain again or 2) the acid is not neutralized and is still etching (hard to believe though)
