Bird Crap Etched my Clear-Coat..Help.

This has never happened to me before with bird crap....I have two bullseyes from a bird that actually etched the clear coat on my car. I've tried 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, EZ1 Clean Cut and 3M Perfect It Polishing Glaze and a Clay Bar (Not in that order) and nothing helped...Didn't do a thing. I'm guessing that my next step is to water sand, which I'd like to avoid since my car was owned by previous owners and I have no idea how much clear-coat is left on the car.

Does anyone have some suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

A former Autopian, Ron K, posted comments about bird doo and the damage it can do. Do a search for it as it gets mentioned frequently.

Bottom Line: Bird doo is acidic and if the clear coat is etched, the damage is done. No product is gonna fix it. Need to go to something more serious than just polish.

Yep, depending on what the bird ate depends on how acidic their droppings are.

It has damaged your paint. If it is light, then you might be able to use a compound and buffer to get it out. Otherwise colorsanding is in order.

okay guys, sorta brodening the question here.

I know it works for me but I would like to know for others. For those of you using Z or K, how has the bird dropping etching issue been. Have you noticed if the sealants prevent this.

Paul, what wax do you have on your car. Perhaps after you get the imperfections out you should seal it up.

I think I've read that Klasse or Z will slow the process of etching, but if you wait too long, there will still be damage.

Same thing happened to me the other day. I made a post also. I think it was called "spot on new car." Check it out for some tips. Try and let it breath for a day or to and it may just dissapear, mine did.

I've had bird dropping baked on my paint for several days and noticed no damage with the use of Klasse Sealant Glaze topped with ProWax's Satin Creme.

I think a lot has to depend on how acidic the droppings are. What did the bird eat?

This car had Meguiars Gold Class on it and I used Mequiars Quik Detailer between washings.

I've been using Zaino and now Black Fire on my Corvette and never had a problem with birds.

Looks like the damage is done...Fortunately it's on the roof and it's not that noticeable....You can see it only if the light hits it correctly. Thanks everyone.

Now that I'm using Blitz/P21S, the car does seem to be more prone to etching. Etching was hardly a problem back when I was using Zaino.

With the Zaino, I think it worked pretty good in this area. I had a bird crap all over the hood, and it dried up and peeled off on its own. It curled up and fell off. On another occaision there was some poo, and i flicked it right off the finish, after it had dried ofcourse.

He said "Poo"....But seriously....It's a problem. The bird that crapped on my roof had brown, thick crap. Just looking at it was intimidating. I knew it was trouble from the get go....It did some SERIOUS Damage.

I can post pictures if you want????

I have had some pretty bad etching from birds on both of my Black BMW's. I think that their paint is soft to start with and black is the worst at showing these problems.

I've had to resort to wet sanding in some cases and in a few instances, that didn't even get rid of them!:(

The secret is to get to them ASAP. I keep a small spray bottle of QD in both cars with a MF towel. My wife has been trained to breifly inspect her car each time she gets in and out of it to catch early damage. At first she thought I was nuts, but after she got one that sat there for a full day in the sun, she understands!
