Bigger than normal job!!! 2018 Peterbilt 389 Dump truck gets coated!

Had a request from a friends boss whom does asphalt work. He picked up a new 2018 Peterbilt 389 dump to add to his fleet and had heard about my services and IGL Eclipse industrial coating. So it arrived on Friday evening and bright and early Saturday morning I got started. The initial deal was for them to have the truck all cleaned on the exterior in which they normally have it nice and clean every couple of days. Unfortunately it had to go out on a job Friday so when it arrived it was a bit dirty to say the least lol.

No correction work was being performed here. This was more of a clean and coat type job.

First was to get the dump body and cab cleaned. No messing around here. Hyperwash, LA Awesome and Dawn were all used to get the grime off of this thing.

Next was the frame as that was getting coated as well. This took a bunch of straight APC, scrubbing and pressure washing to get the layer of grime off of it.

Once all the cleaning was done it was time to get to spraying. I used my Iwata lph80 with 1.2 tip at about 9psi. This lays a bit heavier and uses a bit more product but for this application it works nicely.

Once the frame was all sprayed it was onto the dump bed. Same process was used.

For the cab I hand applied and leveled as needed. Making sure to cover all the areas such as grill, bumper, air intakes, backs of mirrors, exhaust stacks. Also the wheels were treated as well. I did do a bit of polishing on the tank and battery box. For that I used my Rupes 21mm Mark ll/swirl killer mini, Rupes yellow pad and Mckees fast aluminum polish.

Then to dress it up. Hyper dressing on the tires lol.

16 hours later, 300ML of product and a serious payday and I`m beat! lol

That’s awesome! Great job. You’re lucky you didn’t have to polish out the paint!! That coating looks interesting

Justin00ss:
What did you use for an APC to remove the asphalt/tar on the frame and what type of pressure washer did you use and at what pressure?
Did you ever use McKee`s Tar Max Tar Remover for such type of cleaning??

I am assuming that this Industrial Coating will make clean-up of this dump truck easier. I do not know of many places that clean up their trucks, except in instances where local municipal ordinances require them to clean off dirt and gravel/rocks at construction sites so it does not "contaminate" public roads. I HATE/DESPISE that when such trucks track that debris/detritus from construction sites onto public roads and it gets on my car. Or when full gravel trucks "inadvertently" drop some of their load going over road bumps or train tracks and it cracks a windshield or chips your paint.

LA totally awesome was used in straight and 50/50 mixed.

Pressure washer- Greenworks 2000psi 1.2gpm

Goof off professional strength in a aerosol can was used for some tar removal. Luckily the frame didn`t really have much tar. The underside of the dump body did and was beyond even cleaning or coating and he agreed. Hence why his next one is coming straight from the factory to me.
