CMA is out of the 6 inch velcro backed plate for the PC, does the

5" work just as well with the foam pads??



Also how necessary is the grey pad??

Are the terry cloth bonets that useless?

Do you remove the wax with the white pad too or just apply it??
 
There are other places that carry the 6'' backing plate, so you don't have to settle for the 5'' if you don't want to. The gray finishing pad is for applying sealants like Klasse SG, Zaino Z2 and has no cleaning properties. IMO the terry bonnets are pretty much useless, if you could feel them you would know what I mean. The white pad is used for applying wax. Machines are generally not used for removal of products but rather application.
 
So when you aply a wax with the pc, you just buff it off by hand??



When using a polish you buff til it almost disappears??



I have Mequires # 9, what you you reccomend I use before that and after??
 
Yep, I would buff the wax off by hand. With polish you buff it untill is almost is gone, this allows the abrasives to break down. Well, Meguiars #9 is an abrasive, so you must use it first otherwise it will remove any product you put on the surface.

Do you work the wax into the paint like polish??



Are there any draw backs to removing the wax with the PC?
 
I don't work the wax at all. There is nothing to "work" really because most caranuba waxes have no cleaning ability. Just let the pad glide over the surface and the machine operating under it's own weight. Set the speed around 2-4 depending on what you are comfortable with. If you are going to be using the PC to wax, then you are going to be stuck with liquid waxes only....no paste.



You could remove wax with the PC if you wanted to. You would need some Microfiber bonnets. Make sure you have enough on hand because the bonnets can load up quickly with wax.
 
are the microfiber bonnets on TOL like the CMA one, are they any good?

white finishing(is this lke the grey from cma)

yellow cutting(like the yellow cma)

black polishing(like the white cma)

I never tried the microfiber bonnets from TOL so I really can't comment on those but here is what the foam pads are:



White Finishing (like the White pad from CMA)

Yellow Cutting (same a cutting pad from CMA)

Black Polishing--Never tried this one from TOL so can't really say.
 
You can use paste wax with your PC just use a butter knife to apply the wax from the container to the pad. :bounce
 
I have 3-4 of these, and they've started to perform poorly... Any ways to revive them, or do I just need to get something else?

When I first got them, they sucked up water like a champ. Now, they tend to just smear the water around, at least until damp, and then they work better.

To clean them, I wash with warm water, and use the Micro Restore liquid detergent specifically for MF towels. Then I hang to dry. So as far as I know, I haven't been doing anything bad to them.
 
I have two that are doing the same thing. When new, I could towel the glass first and it would wipe clean, but not anymore, it streaks the glass and streaks the paint finish too.

I'm going to replace mine with something from CG.

Well did yours start differently? Mine would suck water up like a magnet when dry, and now they smear it around until damp...
 
I've been buy a yellow drying towel at Target. They aren't from a flashy website, but they work like crazy and never diminish.
 
When you rinse your towels how much suds are produced in the rinse cycle? Make sure that in that final rinse cycle you are producing no suds at all. Also when do you wash your towels in regards to your normal laundry? I always wash my bathroom towels before my detailing towels to try and let them pick up any fabric softener that remains. I also wash my Waffle Weaves last just so that there is an even more reduced chance that there could still be some fabric softener in the machine.

I don't actually watch the wash process. I have a front loader, and I put in the amount of Micro restore as directed. Sometimes I'll pre-soak them in de-greaser like Purple Power, and wash, then wash again with the micro-restore.

I thought fabric softener was in the dryer?

Maybe I'll try washing by hand in a clean 5 gallon bucket and seeing how that affects things.
 
I set the front loader on xtra rinse and xtra spin.

It's not the laundry cycle that's affecting mine, it's seniority. Old age, worn. They are used twice a week from March thru November.

Target has drying towels?
 
As far as washing goes, I just wash with an "environmentally friendly" laundry detergent and throw in 1/2 to 1 cup vinegar in the rinse cycle, depending on the size of the load. The vinegar helps removes soap residue and will soften hard water (which I have).

I've had the same drying issues with some of my WW micros. Some I've always thought were due to age. The nap on these towels is short to begin with and since the polyamide (the supposed absorbing and quick drying fiber) is only 20 -30% of the towel, it seems reasonable that these fibers would/could wear down.

Having said that, I've seen the same thing happen with my newer towels when used in high humidity. As said above, when it happens, I hit the glass first and get the towel a little damp.:rolleyes:
