Best way to wash a car prior to clay/polish.

What do you guys consider the most effective method of washing prior to clay/polish? I **"really"** want to try and make certain that I'm getting as much off in the wash as I can, as to not mar as much with the clay. I realize this is a tad OCD, I just really don't want to risk ANYTHING getting caught in my pad while polishing.

I've often thought about purchasing a paint decontamination kit once I read up on everything and get a better idea of what to buy, but I'm still uncertain and feel a bit apprehensive about putting strong chemicals on my paint. Should I just use a heavier ratio of my Duragloss shampoo and scrub a little more aggressively? Dawn wash?

Any comments more than appreciated.

To me, if you are going to polish, the marring of clay is a non factor. Of course I always try to remove as much during wash as possible.

Many people would suggest ironx, which is good to get metallic particles that embed into the paint.

Some would suggest the ABC kit. This seems to be one of the best kits to fully Decon before Claying.

If you are anal about a clean surface, have you looked into any other clay alternatives? Perhaps you want different clay grades (fine / coarse), or a clay mitt or clay towel.

For my wash, I use Optimum no Rinse. When I want to Decon, I add some Optimum power clean to the onr.

I have heard bad things about dawn drying out rubber gaskets and other parts of your car, but then again many people suggest it.

I agree that the use of IronX or other decon products are very helpful prior to claying. I also use a tar remover like Tarminator or TarX. This speeds up claying/prep towel and virtually eliminates marring.

Just depends on your starting point. Anything from ONR/conventional car wash soap to a full on decontamination wash.
