Best way to get rid of GREASE!

I dont have a carpet extracter, but I have a car coming up next week that supposedly has a lot of oil/grease stains on it (Mecanic)

ANY RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!:eek:
 
There are ways of getting out grease stains without the extractor but it will take longer. Here is what I would do:

Spray a strong carpet cleaner into the stains (I actually would use the 4 star stuff because it is powerful and a good price)

Scrub like a mad man with a stiff brush or get the scrub adapter for the PC and turn up the speed.

Blot the stains with a white towel (do not rub)

Wet vac the carpet really good.

Blot the carpet with a white towel.

Tip, when you spray the cleaner into the stain, let it penetrate the grease for about 10 minutes, and the hit it with the scrub action. That should help break up the grease. Also vac up as much moisture as possible to prevent any stains from wicking back up.

Show some before and after pic if you can.

what were you going to use if you do't have an extractor? ....wet vac? ....

here's a cheap way to do it...get a pretreatment like Spray and Wash ..from the laundry supply ilse...get one that specifically says beaks up grease and oils...pre-treat the carpet and then work the outside and then go through what ever steps you had planned..hand scrubbing or wet/vac
 
I heard of some people pre soaking of diluted simple green and then scrubbing with there shampoo and extracting or vacumming.
 
Dawn will break up the grease, but you will have a whole lot of suds to try to get out of the carpet. I would go with a degreaser or a dedicated carpet cleaner.

I have seen good results with Dawn on carpet but it takes like 10 min to get it all out of the carpet and has alot of suds. If you use an extractor it gums it up and causes it to shake and not have the suction it would when not full of suds.
 
Try naptha, works for me. Just remember to dab it and not scrub. Also avoid the fumes as much as possible. You might want to test in an inconspicuous area but I have used it many times without any problems of discoloring. Good luck.

Don't really know, hasn't killed me yet. I bought a bottle of spot remover from a carpet cleaning store and the ingredients were 100% napthat. Paid 6.95 for 8oz and then read the label. Get it now for 2.50 a quart at a paint supply store. The recomendations on the bottle suggested not to breathe the fumes for long periods. Worked really good for road oil and grease on carpets for me. Just thought I'd throw that in.
