Best way to clean a fabric roof?

I searched for this but didnt find a definite answer. Should I just wash with regular car wash and/or Dawn? Any type of treatment I could use afterward to freshen the fabric up and make it look newer? I'd need something I could pickup quickly at Pepboys, AutoZone, etc. Thanks in advance.

I simply hose the fabric top off when doing our Convertible. I "wash" it once or twice per year with the Porsche product. I Scothguarded the top when the car was new. There does not appear to be any degradation and the material still looks new.

The most important thing to remember when washing a cloth convertible top

is “less soap is always better. Actually, a cloth top that is relatively clean should be washed with almost no soap.

Before washing the car, wet the top and the entire car, then proceed to use a soft nylon brush and gently sweep wet cloth. Do not scrub. Only apply a little soap and gently sweep where necessary.

Rinse thoroughly, and allow top to dry evenly on its own.

I use car wash soap with the oxo car brush and rinse with a lot of water. I dry with the P21s drying towel.

I appreciate the responses. I got a call this afternoon for a job tommorrow morning and havent done a fabric roof before. Autopians to the rescue again. :bow

9 times out of 10, I am able to get a fabric roof clean by simply vacuuming it and wiping it down with damp microfiber towel.
