Best wax/polish process to use on a VW

Hey all. I am getting a new car.....a silverstone grey 2003 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T. I would absolutely love to prep it myself. But the dealer won't deduct the money that includes a prepping fee, obviously. I also really don't have the time nor a garage to do this process which would take more then a day lol.

I have been detailing cars for quite some time now, but this is my first German car. I have always owned Japanese imports in the past and know what works best on them. But now German cars, I have no real experience with.

What do you all recommend for a grey Volkswagen?

Thanks.

Congrats on the new ride.

I think what has worked for you on your former cars will work fine on the new one. Why not try your exisiting products and techniques on the new car and evaluate their performance? It's a lot easier to test the same products on different cars than it is testing different products on different cars.

I just bought a '98 New Beetle and after I prep'd it with FI-II with a PC, I used AIO followed by 3 layers of SG and finally topped it off with a layer of P21S/S100. The red color really pops and it looks great.

From reading, thats what Im seeing. S100 and AIO. My favorite now is Meguiars #26 and has worked the best on all the cars I've done.

I think I'll give S100 a shot. As in the catalogue, it says "FROM THE LAND OF BMW, AUDI and VW" or something like that.

I was looking on that site, and thats what S100 came up on a search...Is that what I want because I see a motorcycle on the front? Thanks

first off, all waxes are subjective. Depth, clarity, feel, application methods, ease of use ect. all differ with each wax. This si why there is more than 1 wax out there. To get the desired affect, you must try them 1st hand. I have pretty much every one on the maket (still tryin to get einzett sp?) and still test the differently for desired affects.

s100 is perfect for cars. it is advertised for bikes, but the paint is the same. It is also sold under the name Ps21. search for that story tho....

I use P21S/S100 products on my Passat. Am in the process of putting Klasse system on my VW this weekend, and will top with P21S carnauba wax.

The P21S wheel cleaner is great for the wheels, because VWs have a lot of brake dust! Be sure and clean them weekly, so you don't end up with etched wheels.

For the interior/dash, I use 303 spray. And for rubber trim, gaskets, etc I use BMW Gummi-Pflege to keep it supple.

So is it the same stuff.....just the S100 for bikes and the P21S carnuba wax for cars, just under different names? Because the packaging looks similar. Or if someone can give me a link of exactly the S100 I need would be greatly appreciated.

Remember guys, this is a hard core Meguiars nut talking here ;)

I'm forseeing unknown territory here, but always willing to try new product. Thanks.

S100 is the same product as P21S - just marketed for motorcycles, and less expensive. You can go to your local Harley Davidson dealership and probably find it there.

There are a zillion posts on this subject - you just need to exercise the search engine and look for them!

ZAINO

Look it up on their site. You can dowload all their tips and tricks

as to how to apply. I find ie easy to use.

www.zainobros.com

I went from Zymol to Zaino to care for my 17 year old paint

on my BMW.

I now have a shine that looks like I covered the car with nail polish.

The more I use the deeper the gloss...........beautiful

A while ago everyone was talking about P21S, then because they found that S100 sold for 33% LESS for the same product, discussions of S100 replaced P21S.

S100 has a new formulation beginning with a manufacturing date of October 1st. So if you can get some that has been stocked for a while, it will be the same.

The new stuff will be different, and I don't see how it will be improved over P21S since it will now contain less expensive ingredients.

Does anyone know what this new product looks like? :nixweiss I just assumed they'd change the S100 packaging and labelling so it'd be simple to differentiate the old stuff and new stuff.....

Don't get me wrong. P21S/S100 is a great looking wax, but unless my memory of New York/New Jersey is bad, you guys can get a pile of snow. S100 lasts about the same as #26, and is extremely easy to apply and remove. But have you considered a sealant for winter? They are definitely better winter protection against salt, freezing rain and snow.

I'm using Blackfire this winter for my outside vehicles. The new Paint Protectant formula is fabulous, and a great improvement over the older one.

The Klasse System may also be good on your vehicle.

Both can use P21S as a topcoat.

They would be tougher protection.

Hey man...I have no detailing advice for you since I'm new to detailing myself, but definitely check out this site: VWVortex

It's a site for VW enthusiasts and they have a Golf forum as well a detailing forum. You'll learn a lot about your car from the guys there.

Enjoy the new car....:up

I have Zaino and I really don't like it for some cars. The only car where it really works well is on my father's blue Jeep Cherokee.

I have some, so I'll give it a shot.

hmm....Either Blackfire or P21S. Decisions Decsions....
