Best Wax For Black Cars

My brother's got a black '89 944turbo in DC and wants a good wax for black paint for Xmas.

What do you recommend?

He mentioned I could get him a wax with black enhancers like the colored Turtle Wax stuff as a last resort before considering a hood / nose repaint.

Is colored Turtle Wax good enough or is there something definitely better?

Thanks.

I was looking at that wax, I really want my black paint to pop. Is the Natty Blue long lasting? Is it easy to use by hand?

this is a trick question!

I would look in to a good polish or a good person to detail the car

if he is thinking repaint, no wax is going to help

but a machine buff could!

on black I like trade secret & natty blue(but only after a good polish!)

Yes the Natty's is pretty durable. It goes on easy and comes off easy with no residue. You can't beat the bubble gum smell either!

My fav carnuabas for black:

Pinnacle Souveran

Nattys Blue

both posts above are from guys that know their stuff . . . and they are both right . .

one thing i would like to include in this discussion is Hi -Temps Black Wax, or top of the lines Black Velvet

Both are carnuba paste waxes formulated mainly for black cars. I know many people are skeptical of colored formulations . . . but these will do a wonderful job (not as warm or deep as souveran, estate glazes or 50/50) at providing the looks you want, but because the formualtion is black any residue which may build up in paint chips or other imperfections are not highlighted. I personally have the hi temp midnight express liquid cleaner/sealant (like poly seal but black) and the black carnuba paste.

check them out at Black Wax

Black Liquid Wax

I have found that these products make black cars just a little eaiser. i will say again however, that this combo will not give the identical warmth and depth of a higher end carnuba paste.

good luck . . .

That black wax looks interesting...

I would agree with the above posts..

Souveran

Natty's Blue

and I'd also add..

Meguiar's #26

all depending on what you want to spend..

You might consider, Max Wax,Clearkote Carnauba Mose Wax,and one of the most 'forgotten' waxes IMO,Harly Carnauba Wax,which is fabulous on black.

My two favorites on black are definitely:

Natty's Blue

#26

I just ordered some #16 im interested to see how that will wind up looking compared to the other two mentioned above!?

I would use Meguiars Colorx or Klassee AIO before Natty's to clean and prep the surface, sounds like the paint isnt at 100% condition

What is your budget? Sounds like you might be better off finding a pro detailer in the area and getting full exterior detail lined up for him. If the paint is in bad condition, wax is not going to help, it needs to be corrected first.

BINGO! I should have read your post first. I like your style SHICKS. :goodjob

Awesome feedback!!! Thanks very much!!!

I'm leaning toward Natty's Blue.

Budget isn't an issue.

He got the car this past Spring and applied the Meguiar's 3 step process about 3 times since. I told him to add the clay bar as step 0.

The paint has really come back!

but there is obvious wear / road rash on the nose from highway driving etc. So he wanted to experiment with a black enhancing wax before considering any more involved steps like a professional polish and/or repaint.

THX!
