Best tire gauge?

I have a great tire gauge I got from Summit Racing a few years back, but I need something that goes up to about 100 PSI for my van and bikes.

My favorite feature of a gauge is being able to release tire pressure with a button and watch it go down.

Not so sure about analog, digital, but I sort of prefer analog.

Bonus points for a gauge I can pick up locally...

I saw a cool pump at Sharper Image, I think, it had a built in gauge that would turn the compressor off when it reached the predetermined psi.

I got one from griots that I like, it's not the digital one, those things stop working after time and stop being accurate.

I've had an Accu-Gage analog for about 5 years now and still works like new. You can feel and see the quality. Bought one for my father and he cussed me for spending more than $3 for a mere tire gauge. Now he swears by them too. I recommend them.

Just to follow up:

I went with Accu-Gage as suggested. I called around but couldn't find one locally, so I ordered from getagauge.com as Horseman suggested.

The gauge came today, pretty quick service. It works like a charm and is probably the best $20 investment you could make in your cars!

too late ... I am myself shopping for good tire pressure gauge and I found a better price @ brookstone for $15.00. If you have this store in your area, you dont have to pay shipping :)

I had a "made in Taiwan" digital gauge... typical pressure checking went like this:

1. check pressure: 36 psi

2. hmm, better do it again to be sure: 24 psi

3. ***? better try it again: 824 psi

4. :angry

I went to Brookstone store in a mall nearby. I was surprised - in online they show Accu Gage picture in dial but in store the guage is sold under Brookstone brand and dial is white color in online picture but black color when I bought. I was excited I got a good deal and I went to gas station next day morning. I brought my old digital guage also to check accuracy. I started with driver side front tire - Brookstone showed 31 psi reading and my digital showed 29.5. I said what the .... I saw chuck wasnt secured tightly to hose ( attached to guage ). Tried again this time it showed correct reading. I connected air compressor hose for inflation, dial went upto max ( 100 psi ) while inflating and when I stopped it showed 36psi. I tried digital it showed 33psi. I tried again brookstone, it showed 33 psi correctly now.

Now went to other tires, chuck wont secure properly to tire valves - hissing sounds or dial staying at 0 psi. Good news is Brookstone guy said - whenever you have a problems with it, bring it back, they will replace it for free. Tomorrow I am going to give it my friend for trying just to make sure it wasnt user error.

Now my questions to u guys who bought "actual" Accu-gage EZ Air.

1> Does chuck secure properly to tire valve ? Do you also get hissing sound ?

2> Afer inflating tire, does guage show accurate reading without removing chuck.

3> Did anybody compare readings with Accugage with other product ?

If my friend is also having trouble with it, I will return it.

Today I bought Accutire MS4020 for $12.99 @Sears. I tired it this evening, much better and easy to operate. I will return Brookstone model later this week.

carcrazy, thanks for the PM.

The version I bought was just the regular gauge, not the inflator one. It kind of scares me that yours hit the "redline" while it was inflating--that doesn't right to me that it is even showing the line pressure.

I did check mine vs. an older gauge and the difference was significant--3-4 psi. Unfortunately, I don't know which is right. But I'm 90% sure the new one is right, I'll let road feel be my ultimate guide I guess.

Accugage is great...take care of it, don't drop it. I've mailed mine back to Meiser and they will check and re-cal at no charge (at least they used to).

I got it from Herrington catalog. I drove over it in my car and broke it. They took it back 4 years later and replaced with a new one!

Works great. I use it on the 4 family cars once a month.

I believe that is basically the same as the 4020, except yours has the added backlight. Both were rated 1&2 'excellent' by CR. Amazon sells the 4000 for quite a bit cheaper than Autogeek. Accutire MS-4000B at Amazon
