Best store bought cookie

Tasty

New member
I am kind of a connoisseur of factory made, store bought cookies. I love them. Recently the new Chips Ahoy Soft Baked Chunky has shot to the top of my list. One thing I can't stand about a cookie is when they are crunchy and dry. Horrible. Cookies were meant to be moist/soft ONLY! I highly recommend these cookies.

Anyway, this got me to thinking what do you guys think is the best cookie around. Not some obscure brand no one can find. Strictly mass produced and nationally available rankings please.

My top 3:

1. Chips Ahoy Soft Baked Chunky

2. Grandma's Homestyle Fudge Chocolate Chip

3. Chewy Chips Ahoy

Tasty,

This cookie will not meet your specs (being a dry cookie), but the best storebought cookie of all time is, IMO, the Oreo. Next would be another dry cookie, the Oreo's twin, the Nutter Butter. Third would be Vienna Fingers (another dry cookie).

All the cookies you mentioned are excellent as well. I have no preference for dry or moist, I like both.

I will allow the Oreo because, to me, it is inseparable from milk. It's hard to beat Oreos with a cold glass of milk.

I'm a sucker for Chewy Chips Ahoy as well. I also love the Nutter Butters, and Vienna Fingers. Altimately soft chewy cookies are my preference though.

Oreos all the way...

slightly offtopic...

Do you guys know (without googling) what the #3 best selling cookie in America is? Number 1 being Oreo, #2 being Chips Ahoy....

I don't know if their the best, but I like Famous Amos Cookies, nice and crunchy. LOL The best for me really is Mrs. Fields at the Mall here in Layton.

Pepperidge Farm cookies

I see them at the store, but never buy them. I guess because you don't get that many. Forgot to mention Essensa (sp) makes some pretty good cookiees as well.

Generally speaking those moist cookies stay that way by having a lot of oil added to them. I generally prefer dry cookies in pre-packaged form. The oily ones gross me out. Pepperidge Farm cookies rock, though they are a bit of a ripoff pricewise.

^^^ what he said. Thoose would be my choices in that order. When I can though as the doctor says I have to cut back on the sweets :(

I actually haven't tried the new versions (I live in Japan), but I love the original Chips Ahoy! I think PF "Brussels" (I think that's the name) are excellent. And what's the name of the Girl Scout cookies that are covered in chocolate and with (if I remember right) coconut "shavings" embedded :o in the chocolate; I think they may also have some caramel inside -havent had them for years, but I love 'em!

Yup, Samoas.

Helpful tip: If you store boxes of Samoas in the freezer so you can have them year-round be sure to let them come to room temp before you bite into one. Not necessary with Thin-Mints or Do-Si-Dos but the Samoas will kill you.

When my sister moved to Texas and then to Missouri and her girls joined new Girl Scout troops we found that sometimes cookies have different names in different parts of the country. Similarly, not all cookies are sold in all areas.

I have to agree. I haven't found a pre-packaged soft cookie I'm really crazy about.

I think they call them Caramel Delites in our region, and they are awesome. I could eat a whole box of those easily.

Oreo, Pecan Sandies, Lorna Doone, Nutter Butter (to a degree), Nabisco Swiss, Famous Amos, Mrs Fields White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Snickerdoodles, Knott's Berry Farm Raspberry or Blueberry, Girl Scout Thin Mints, (...to name a few) are all good but none tops my all time fave....

Chinese Almond Cookies

There is a place in my neck of the woods where I can get a 12 pack for $1. In some cases, that pack does not see the second day in my house. :D

I bought a Granma's chocolate chip the other day. They were really dried out, maybe they were just old, I don't know. I do know that they're smaller than they used to be.

Oreo's are hard to beat.

Famous Amos' little bags are a nice snack when on the road.

I'd have to go with any from Oreo!
