Best Rotary Pads for a Beginner

I need some advice. I just received my Makita 9227 rotary polisher and am ready to roll. :D



I have both CMA's 6.5 inch concave pads and Meguiar's 6.5 inch flat pads. I plan to start with the rotary at about 1000 rpms using Meguiar's #28 Swirl Free Polish and a polishing pad.



Which type pad is the easier to contol -- CMA or Meguiar's. I have used both types on my pc and really can't tell much difference.

I prefer the CMA pad, but i find the 6.5 a little small especially when doing a whole car. IMO the 7.5 are the perfect size, but what ever you feel comfortable with you should go with. Try em both out.

I just got a rotary backing plate to accomodate my 6-6.5" pads for the PC. I use them with the rotary and really like it. Even got a plate for 4" pads too.



As for practice, be sure you are comfortable with both flat surfaces as well as side surafeaces before you try it on an entirecar. I'm not there yet. Need to practice on sides.

It was my practice, went straight to the car. I didn't think of getting practice fenders, but then again it's hard to replicate usage on a fender that is sitting on the ground and you can move around at your own will. The toughest part of the rotarty is learning how to manuever around the vehicle.



Your going to get holograms at first, but don't worry the pc will take them out. Just be smart with the rotarty, keep it moving and plan your attack before you turn it on. I would also suggest to get some painters tape and tape up your trim so the sling doesn't get on it.

Thanks. I'm pretty darned careful. I think that I'll be able to start like you did.



I've already had to remove holograms with my pc. I had some work done at a body shop and the tech messed up a bit with a rotary. They were bad enough that I had to use DACP and Meguiar's burgandy pad to get them out.

If you do pick up some scrap fenders, clamp each onto a set of saw horses with a large vC clamp secured by wood blocks on each side of the clamp
