Best QD for over a sealant or wax-topped sealant?

Hi all,

Been a long while since i've posted here, and my product knowledge is most certainly not current.

I'm looking for a QD to use on top of UPP. I used to use the Four Star QD spray (forget what it was called), but don't see it listed. I like the UPP combo when I used it because it gave me a nice deep gloss on my dark cars (one dark blue, one black).

With all the new products and tech, what are some current good options for a QD that will go over either sealant or perhaps a wax topper? And I guess while I'm at it (have been reading a little to try and catch up, but not very far yet), what are the current "hot" sealants? Used to use AIO x2, then top with UPP and perhaps follow with Souveran....looking for similar results.

thanks, and it's nice to be back....

andrew

Found the name of what I used to use - Ultimate Gloss Enhancer....over top of the original UPP or UPP/Souveran...

I would use BLACKFIRE WET DIAMOND ALL FINISH PAINT PROTECTION as my sealer and BLACKFIRE DEEP GLOSS SPRAY as my quick detailer. You will love it! Steve

With many QD's out there, I would like to ask if your looking for one that contains a wax or sealant in it?

IMO these are great products to use after layering your sealant or wax on your like: Blackfire Deep Gloss Spray Sealant, Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer , Ultima Detail Spray Plus, Sonus Acrylic Spritz, Pinnacle Crystal Mist Carnauba Detail Spray and Poorboy’s World Spray & Gloss. One of these will do the job and protect the finish on the vehicle. Remember the sale going on right now and stock up with our AutopiaForums Sale!:bigups

Not neccissarily one with wax or sealant in it, but definitely one that will work over wax OR a sealant.

I used Fourstar UGE previously, also have tried Pinnacle Crystal Mist (didn't like it as well), and Poorboy's S&G. the UGe seemed to give the deepest look no matter what it was going over (UPP, AIO, or Souveran).

Sonus seems to have specialized with one spray for sealant and one for wax....like the idea of just having one that works for either (like the Blackfire)....

Just wondering what the current trends are....

Then I recommend going with the Blackfire Deep Gloss spray. It contains the same gloss and bonding polymers used in Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection and Midnight Sun Paste Wax. You won't be disappointed at all:bigups

hook, I share your fondness for the UPP/UGE combo. They were quite a pair and I had not realized that UGE was no longer on the market. Speaking of past QD products, Meg's Final Detail always complemented waxed finishes well. I think I'm down to my final gallon of that horded product.

As for current QDs, I favor Adam's Detail Spray. Works well with sealants and waxes.

Other options that I employ with some frequency (for wax or sealant):

DuraGloss Fast Clean & Shine
Poorboy's QD+

Countless other options, but those are an easy 3 for consideration.

:exactly:I love the BF QD. I have used a lot of them and few are as easy to use as BF. Brings back that just sealed look.

Mr Clean I know what you mean..I have a about a half gallon left and use it sparingly. It's a great QD...:rockon

I guess I'm kind of a QD junkie. I use QD's after every wash on my personal car, which is at least once a week and I love trying new ones. Same with spray waxes and sealants.

I used to think Finish Kare FK425 was hype with the anti-static claim, but I recently was out of town for 6 days. Usually my car will get covered in dust from sitting in the garage, but I came home and it is still clean. It also is extremely slick.

For a QD that doesn't add anything to the paint (good during polishing or if you don't want to disturb the look of your wax or sealant) I love Meguiar's M34 Final Inspection.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer (M135 Synthetic Spray Detailer for the larger pro version) is extremely user friendly and really promotes extreme water beading. I also happen to love the smell.

Optimum Gloss Enhancer and Detailer is another product that smells great and IME leaves the paint glossy and extremely slick.

Blackfire Deep Gloss Spray, as mentioned, is really more a spray sealant then QD, so it is a little trickier to use, but does brighten paint and leave behind a protective sealant film that will last.

I better stop now, before I continue to get carried away.

To answer the OP's question, IMO, it depends what you want. Most QD's are not going to strip a sealant or wax, so it is a matter of deciding what you are looking for in the QD. If you want to play it really safe, then Meguiar's M34, which is mild and leaves nothing behind.

Great post Todd, lot of good info. I don't use QD as much as I use to but I always have a bottle or three on hand.
