Best product/technique to use on unpainted aluminum

I'm working on a Lotus 7, and the entire bottom half is unpainted aluminum. After doing the (painted) upper sections, I started on the bottom with DACP and the maroon cutting pad on the DA. Aside from gumming up my pad and turning it pitch black, it wasn't creating any good results.

I don't need to make a mirror out of it but want it to look polished. Any ideas on where to go with this?

I also clayed it first, and took a little junk off, but it was turning my clay black and not really doing much.

Thanks in advance for the info guys.

You need an aluminum polish, not a paint polish.

There are lots of metal polishes out there - Mothers, Eagle One, Semichrome, Flitz, Wenol, etc. Take your pick.

You might even want to try Never Dull as it is a treated cotton wadding and with the area your working on you could unroll 4" or so and have a 3 x 4 " pad to work with. I used a 3 x 4" piece under the 4" pad on a cordless Orbital to do an aluminum firewall panel.
