Best Polish/Wax Combo for a Black Car?

My dad just game me or rather passed down his 1991 Nissan 300ZX to me which he bought new in 1991. Its a great car and I love it. It looks very good for being 13 or so years old but i would like to make it look like it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. The interior looks perfect. The exterior paint is original and in very good condition but I would like to really clean, polish, and wax it. I have used Megs Fine Cut Cleaner followed by Show Car Glaze and some NXT applied with my PC.

I love Megs products and think I am going to try some #83 DACP for the clean/prep but want to know the best polish and wax combo for a black car.

Thanks alot for your help,

-Ryan

Well since the paint is in good shape i would go with a light polish like SSR1, for clay the elastic way to go is the way, so either claymagic or wolfgang, and for the wax NXT i think is a good idea, it leaves dark colored cars looking amazing and very glossy.

Unfortunately, as another black owner, it's time for it's winter coat. In the warmer weather, a light polish follwed by Souveran wax is pretty hard to beat on black. Problem is..it just doesn't hold up when the weather starts to go south. Get her cleaned up and put on 2 coats of Collinite Insulator Wax..available at marine supply stores. She'll look pretty good all winter, then in the spring..work her over good and try the Souveran. If you're going to use NXT, then just top her with IW ..that works pretty well, too.

You wont need DACD if the paint is in "very good" condition. Meg's # 80 (speed glaze) is great stuff for polishing if you want to stay with Meg's. Speed glaze does REMOVE minor imperfections. Im a huge fan of NXT on Black also:xyxthumbs Other combo's ive used with awesome results are #80/AIO/UPP or #80/Poorboys EX (sealant with carnuba) .. Here's a pic of that combo..

Welcome! :wavey And nice Z!

Do you have pics of your car to post?

NXT is a great wax for black. This summer I used the DACP/#7/NXT combo on my black 300ZXTT and won my first trophy at our local annual Z Club car show.

I will try and get some pics up when I get home from college of my Z.

I used the Megs Fine Cut Cleaner and it worked really well but there are still some contaminents and a roughness to my hood. I haven't tried claying yet so that might do it.

I have tried alot of cleaners and polishes and they worked wel but I want something that will clean my paint free of any rougness, contaminents, etc. then a really good polish to make the black color glossy, rich, and deep and a nice wax to protect and enhance the paint.

Welcome to Autopia.

Beautiful Z. I have a 1990 300zx as well. If you are interested check out our website for the East Coast Z Association (ECZA.org). Membership is free and we have alot of events on the East Coast.

I just picked up a black 350Z and did a DACP/VM/EX-P combo. I am thinking of topping with Pinnacle Souveran.

The avatar isn't of my Z, its an ad for the 1999 J-spec Fairlady Z but I will have some pics of my car soon when i get back home from college. Im glad to see fellow Z'ers on this board!

WANNAGUARDS944:

Clay the vehicle, Then ColorX with Meg yellow polishing pad followed by 2 coats of NXT by hand waiting 30 mins for cure time between each coat and as LSP #16 with proper washing every 2wks you should outstanding protection for about 3months

Best polish menzerna FPII, clean with P21s paint cleanser, 3 coats of Zaino or klasse (depending on how much time you've got), topped with P21s concours. These three sealant/wax products are rated 1,2, and 3 by Guru tests, can't go wrong with any combo.

You can try VM topped with EX and then add a layer of Meg's 16. It will look dripping wet and 16 has very good durability.

Thanks guys for your help.

So here is what I was thinking about doing:

Wash

Clay with Pinnacle PolyClay Kit

Megs Fine Cut Cleaner or DACP (If Needed)

Menzerna FP II

Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax

Top with NXT or P21S Concours ( If Needed)

How does that sound?

Thanks for your help!

-Ryan

Everything sounds great except for NXT which has cleaners in it which will remove the liquid souveran. I'd go with P21S, and you will be looking real good :xyxthumbs

Polishes: Menzerna IP, DACP, Meg #80 and Meg's Light Cut. Both PC and Rotary. 98% of the time just PC

Cleansers: AIO and NXT. 99% of the time AIO

Protectant: Zaino
