Being Annoying Now Illegal In Brighton

It's the damnedest thing I've heard of in a while. God forbid my brother comes up from Texas for a visit and we go out to see my sister and her family (she lives not too far away). My brother and I can start goofing off, insulting each other. With our luck, some hard @ss will call the cops on us!!

I guess some peopel do not have a sense of humor.

Naw, I seriously doubt if they would come and arrest you guys for fooling around.

Here in Atlanta we had/have very aggressive pan handlers, druggies and other odd ball types that concerned the locals and our out of town convention trade. Locals and visitors were getting mugged or worse on a regular basis until the city passed an ordinance very similar to the one mentioned as this gives the cops the authority to do something about these undesirables. :bat

I also believe that the passing this year of our right to carry a weapon in public has put a damper on some of these same issues.

Clearly define "annoying" in a court where a $1000 per hour lawyer is defending someone accused of being "annoying".

Thats the follow up story...

That $1,000 per hour lawyer will do it pro bono....

I don't know - looks like it depends on th cop's discretion. Nothing surprises me in this state. One other police chief, in Flint, MI, went on the war path on anyone, of any race, wearing saggy jeans. Link Here

I would think that the ACLU will be all over this one. If they ticket me, I'll be on the phone to them in a heart beat.

Heres the actual language of Ordinance 544 See Chapter 54 Article IV (a) & (c) (PDF) http://www.livingstondaily.com/assets/pdf/C61248431222.PDF

The language is too broad and would likely hold up if it were to be tightened up.

Bob @ Danase should invoke this ordinance and settle out of court.

I think that it is possible that either no one will be charged with this infraction or it will be repealed once someone is charged.

I drive by Brighton on 96E all the time, I will hurl insults and annoyances in the general direction.

There is NO way that does not violate the first amendment. Literally impossible.

It's 100% open to BS interpretation. That one will last long enough to see 1 case...
