Beat 95% of the monster swirls.

A few months ago some birds had used my wife’s 2000 Dark Emerald Pearl Acura TL for target practice. As soon as she saw it, she said wiped it off with some paper towels and water. She reasoned to me that it was better than letting the poop sit. I had to agree that it was probably the lesser of the two evils.

But, since that time, I’ve had these monster swirls MOCKING me every time I washed her car but didn’t have enough time to fix it.

Until today.

She was going to work for half a day and I asked her to take my car so I could work on hers. MUHAHAHAHA.

My steps:

1. Wash

2. Clay

3. DACP w/ cutting pad @ 6

4. DACP w/ polishing pad @ 6

5. PI III MG w/ polishing pad @ 6

6. Zaino X 2

I wanted something that would last awhile because who knows when I’ll get the chance to work on it again. Additionally, Zaino looks really good on her paint.

8:30 AM and the sun doesn’t want to come out to show everyone how bad things are.

Looks great! But what if a bird pooped on your car and she came home today and she had said she "wiped it off with some paper towels and water."

:LOLOL

With Aloha,

Ranney :)

Thanks for the compliments!

General Lee- I used Vinylex.

Ranney - :shocked then  then :angry(at the birds) then :nixweiss then fix it and  ;)

spetulla - What does <3 mean?

Dennis A,

In step five of your detail you say that you used FI III. Does this mean Finesse IT III by 3M? I dont think there is a FI III. There is a Finesse IT II and a Perfect IT III. Can you clear this up for me please?

Great Job, it looks awesome! Now put a Concours Buffing Towel and some QD in her car and make sure she's trained with it lolol.

Wax-on/Wax-off

Great job :) I'm curious, how many times did u have to repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 before waxing? For instance, did it take three applications of step 3 to get the surface to your liking and then go to step 4 to remove the hazing?

When I first read this, I said to myself, "right, that will happen" but then I realized that since she cared enough to wipe it off the first time, maybe she'll use the products if they're in her trunk already. I have some PB Spray and Wipe and an extra MF...:)

I knew going into this project that I wasn't going for 100% swirl removal. I was going for durability. On the other hand, I also knew that 95% was quite doable without a lot of spot treatment. Finally, I had the experience of doing my black TLS a couple of weeks earlier and what it took to get it to 100% for a couple of days. So, I did steps 3, 4, and 5 only once before my sealing.

When I originally did my black car, I kept pulling it out into the sun and checking it. With her car, I stayed in the garage and just moved from step to step. (plus my neighbor's landscaper was jackhammering some concrete:scared) I pulled it out at the end, did a final wipe with Z6, dressed the tires and parked it across the street to take some pics in the sun. To be perfectly honest, this is the third time I've used Zaino and these are the best results I've achieved with it.

I'm convinced that good end results are only possible with good paint prep. Of the 8 hours I spent on the car, 6 were devoted to prep, which also included washing, claying and taping. The only reason applying the sealent took 2 hours was because I waited 30 minutes before wiping the product off.

I've learned the importance of prep work from reading the posts of the masters of detailing that frequent this forum. People like Mike Phillips, Scottwax, et al. I did the arm and back work but they're knowledge and experience was what I was applying. So, thanks to everyone who unknowingly helped me and I'll do my best to pass it on. :xyxthumbs

Excellent work!

I love that car and haven't seen that color on it ever shine like that. Keep it up :xyxthumbs

Teck - Ah, ok. Thanks for the clarification

stevet - Right you are. Just checked and it is Perfect It III Machine Glaze. :o

Dennis--Why did you follow DACP with PI-III MG? I was under the impression that they are just about the same in aggressiveness?

Did following the DACP with the polishing pad give you any noticable benefit? I would have thought that the PI-III would suffice.
