Be careful with your halogen...

Last week I wash trying out my new Menzerna polishes (SIP and Nano) and had my halogen light stand out (up really tall to illuminate the hood). After polishing the car I was trying to wrap up my extension cord and I guess it was wrapped around the bottom of the stand.

When I pulled on the cord the light came crashing forward and fell right on the hood of my black E55. It made a small dent (dime size) and scratched the paint pretty bad in that same spot. I buffed it out but I have speck of paint missing now, too.

I felt totally sick to my stomach. For those of you working with lights on a stand, be smarter than I am and don't fu*k yourself. Be careful! You'll never forgive yourself...

Sorry to hear about your car. That will make you sick.

Be VERY careful with your halogen lights. Besides dents they can cause fires. When the builders were building our house one of the halogen lights fell over. The workers didn't notice it and left for the evening. I got a call from a neighbor around 3:00 am. Our house was on fire!

Yeah, a lot of people have tripped on the cord and knocked the lights into a car. It's pretty easy to do. I was going to pick up some more halogens lights (they're pretty inexpensive, especially on sale) so i don't have to move them around as much while i'm polishing.

Bummer about the dent and scratch though.

It almost happen to me this weekend doing a friends car. Lucky for me i caught it before it hit the rear end. Sorry to hear about your car, hope everything turns out ok after you repair it.

It's sound advice to be careful with anything around your car.

I once stood up a bag of golf clubs next to my car. Needless to say, the bag fell over and all the golf clubs hit the car leaving behind multiple small dents. Luckily, I don't have that car anymore. :)

So sorry to hear that mate.

That is why I don't have a stand with my halogens and when doing a hood, roof and boot, I utilise the sodium vapour lights up in the ceiling of the workshop which are extremely powerful and show every little defect.

Got about 30 of them up there.

I have a sealed sandbag in my garage that is ALWAYS placed on top of on of the legs of my halogen stand for this exact reason. Sorry to hear about the car.

I had mine fall to the side, the glass cover shattered and the bulbs exploded... It was pretty cool but I'm glad it did not hit my car or my motorcycle!!!

Hey Dylan06SS that is great advise "sealed sandbag in my garage that is ALWAYS placed on top of on of the legs of my halogen stand "
