The UDM has a very sensitive on-off switch. When you turn it upside down to apply more product to the pad it is VERY easy to turn on. I have brought this to the attention of the correct people. ...... Just last night I was adding polish to the pad and my hand was to close to the switch. I bumped it, the polisher turned on and polish got in my eye. I flushed my eye its OK. It was my fault in part. Just wanted to make every Autopian with a UDM how sensitive that switch is. I love the UDM except for the switch. I'd buy it again, just need to be more careful.

It takes a little getting use to. It was very frustrating initially, but I have gotten use to keeping pressure on tghe "off" side. Its pretty second nature now, and my son thinks its rather comical. He gets his stabs in when it happens while detailing.

I did the same thing, three times on Monday. I used it for 4 hours yesterday and didnt switch it on like that.

Also dont touch that counterweight if you have been running the machine for a while, I have the burn mark on my arm to prove it gets hot

Man, Im going wait out on this one.. Too many issue with power switch.

I was close to pulling the trigger, but think I'll wait until the kinks are corrected as well.

I had the machine turn on while I was putting a little polish on the pad. My hand accidently slipped and turned it on. That switch moves so easily...

You just have to be real careful with the UDM. Otherwise it is a great polisher!!! A little retraining of the mind and thinking about where your hand is, what your doing, your ok!

Man... I got polish all over my shirt, face, the car, the floor, the ceiling...etc. Everywhere!!! Several times too. Every time it happened my customer was laughing at me... I hate the switch and hate the cable length. However, I like the fact that it has less vibration and noise. I'd say it's a tie with the PC for now...

Try getting Menzerna IP in your eye, talk about a burning sensation.

That is exactly why I notified the correct persons. To bring it to there attention. The UDM should not have been released with that switch. A quick group of users prior to realease would have found the problem right away. Now they want me to send in my UDM and get a full refund. That is not the answer to the problem. It is the switch! I love the UDM except for that fact.

could you remove the switch and install your own radio shack switch? It would look ghetto but I'm a function over form guy (i know right, what am I doing on a detailing forum?)

Yes you could. However living in a rural area why should I have to pay $9.00 for gas, $5.00 for the switch and use my time to go pick it up? It is not my fault the design is flawed. There are methods for product recall / replacement. It's not if someone is going to get hurt, its when. Judging by the post here, if one of the top detailers on this forum has had a problem, then I know it is a real concern.

You mean you guys aren't using safety glasses/goggles when polishing? :)

Only time I use saftey goggles is when doing rims that are really dirty because the Megs Wheel Brightener is a real pain in the eye.

As much as I respect the creator I agree on that one.

The switch was one thing, but the part that annoyed me the most about my UDM is the casing is misaligned so the handle only screws in on the right side. I'm use to having it screwed in on the left side like when I use a PC.
