this can happen from a couple of rags being left too close by. Originally posted at G35driver.com Owner said:

Nobody was hurt ...Thank god.... Got some parts im going to list up

Thanks for posting that Sean. I hope every member here who doesn't have a good fire extinguisher readily assessable in their garage will take the money and time to put one up.

I'm not understanding the implication here...were these oily rags? Was it one of those hand-held light racks that you put on the floor? I mean, mine get hot...but they are 3 or 4' above the floor at the lowest.

Ironically, I was just talking to a friend about a similar issue. His cousing had a Indy 500 pace truck that he's kept stored for many years. He kept the truck covered in a pole bar with moving blankets and IR heaters above the truck. Apparantly a bird built a nest on top of the heater. The nest caught fire and fell on the blankets which subsequently caught fire. The truck was a loss, however, he was able to save the barn (which is where his bus office was).

As with halogens, I had a house built several years ago. While workers were insulating the attic or ?, their halogen got knocked over and no one noticed it. There is now a large mark in the subfloor where the light charred the floor. I know there was another issue from a light, just cant remember right now.

I now own 0 (zero) halogens, don't trust them or me.

Anyways, just my thoughts, hope everyone was alright.

Man thats crazy, I saw that on other forum too.

Oh well, sooo much with my 1000 watts HL...Garabe it goes

From now on Im going use my Uber black light lamp :p

It's also a lesson in not leaving lights unattended. I also hate it when my wife leaves a candle burning a room unattended.

That is why those halogen lights for homes they used to sell at first got safety shields, then were apparently banned for indoor use because I haven't seen them in a few years.

Halogens get HOT! Thanks for the safety reminder Sean.

Scary when you really think about it. What if it was in an attached garage and you forgot to turn off the lite for one of a 100 reasons, makes you think!!

If you do get an extinguisher for your garage.. spend the money and get one from a fire extinguisher dealer. The type they sell are refillable.

Get one that is ABC rated. Class A is for ordinary combustibles, like wood, paper and plastics, Class B is for flammable and combustible liquids, Class C is for energized electrical equipment.

Mount it in a spot where it will be readily accessible.

Go over the operating instructions to make sure you know how to use it... remember the word PASS...

Pull the pin

Aim

Squeeze the handle

Sweep the dry chemical across the fire

Never turn your back on the fire!

If you have to use an extinguisher.. always call the fire department regardless of how small the fire was... rekindles are a *****! :angry

If you use the extinguisher... have it refilled as soon as possible.

Have the extingusiher checked by the extinguisher company once a year. They will put a tag on the unit that shows the inspection dates.

A+!

Thanks Gonz, I was just chatting with a buddy of mine about this post and both him and I have had engine bays go up in flames in front of us. Luckily we both had ABC extinguishers and it was quickly resolved.

Good point on the call to the Fire Dept, I will keep that in mind.

All the best,

Sean
