Bale handle for the UDM

I've been getting many questions lately as to where I picked up the handle for my UDM. You can see here as demonstrated by my 5 year old.

Here's the secret.

I went to a hardware store that carries Makita tools. It wasn't a bigbox store with clueless employees, but a real hardware store with a service department. I asked them if I could order a handle for my DeWalt rotary, and they actually took the handle off of the display and cross checked to see if it would fit on the DeWalt. The handle requires some modification to fit on the DeWalt, and is an easy fit on the UDM. I'm guessing it would work on the PC as well. I have not tried it though.

Once I knew the handle would fit, I went to the parts desk and ordered a handle. It was $8. You may want to order the hex head screws that come with it as well. The place I ordered it from was Hartville Hardware in Ohio, but I'm sure that you could order it elsewhere.

The handle works well, and lets you place the tool upside down on the ground without falling over.

That is a very cool idea.

Too bad there aren't more hardware stores left like that. I went to Sears a few weeks ago to get some Torx drivers. The kid in the department didn't know what a Torx head was. He had to ask his manager. Frankly, I'm surprised *he* knew.

I thinke i'd rather have the one he's using, but the Meg's may fit w/o modification. I guess it just comes down to $$ and availability.
