i already have the lake country d/a backing plates but just purchased the uni-grit 3" and 6" backing plates for my meguiars mf 3" and 5.5" discs that i got when they came out.. first will i notice a difference in how they react on the paint and will 5.5 work with the larger backing plate. hope i don't have to get the 6" mf pads.

What is the part number of the 6" inch backing plate you got from Meguiar's. If is the Mirror Glaze (with the white back) or the W68DA they will be too big for the 5.5 inch pads. The best backing plate to use with these pads is the Meguiars Mirror Glaze G110 DA Polisher 5 inch Backing Plate

You will notice much of a difference in how the pad itself reacts with the paint if you are using the Meguiar's 5 inch vs. a Lake Country (in theory you should gain a smidgen of polishing power but likely far less than 1%). What you will notice more is the pad will run cooler and pad longevity will be increased.
