Backing plate threads stripped.

On just my third use of my PC the backing plate shot off. My first thought was that this had happened.

Luckily it hit the wiper cowl and didn't do any damage. When I looked closer I found that the screw had stripped on the backing plate...

My question is.. only the first 3 threads are stripped because thats as far as it tightened down with the spacer... if i remove the washer I still have atleast 4 perfect threads below that.. does anyone know if there is someway I could make this one work or find an adapter to fix it? I'm sure I can rig an extension to it but do you think that to dangerous?

FYI.. I was extremely cautious about not overtightening it so please dont rub it in... and I've wasted too much money on this "hobby" than I should already have...

I would just buy a new backing plate. I'm also not sure of the spacer/washer you're talking about, but if it is removable and only allows three threads to go into the spindle I wouldn't use it. I have never used a spacer or washer with my PC.

The problem you'll have if you continue to use it is the remaining four threads might give out and this time you might damage your paint. I'd also be concerned about the damaged threads messing up the threads in the spindle, along with metal shavings getting on your paint and buffed in :soscared:

For about $15 for a new BP I wouldn't want to risk it.

Was I not suppose to have used this spacer? It was on the plate when it arrived and I could have sworn I read on something that it was so the wrench could fit between the plate and PC. I can't test it without because the thread is too messed up and I need to find a die to fix it first.
