Backing plate size for rotary?

Which backing plate should I buy if I want to use my PC pads with the rotary. The LINK indicates a 4.75 inch backing plate for the rotary if using the 6.5 inch pads, but why won't the 6 inch backing plate work with the 6.5 inch pads? Is the 6 inch to big?

Get the Meguiars 5" backing plate for circular polishers if you want to use 6.5" pads. If you use a 6" backing plate there would only be a quarter of an inch of pad covering the backing plate and that is just asking for it to touch the paint eventually with only that much room for error. Get the smaller one, if the bakcing plate ever touches the paint at 1400RMPs you are looking at a nice scratch.

Yes the 6 inch backing plate is too big for your pads, esp if your pads have velcro that fits the 4.75 inch plate. I bought the 5 inch plate at autogeek. That one you have on the link would also work.
