Back from Winter Break, Opt No Rinse Test

Hi All,

I'm finally back from my winter break , the dog sleds are packed away and the igloos are about melted .. only a bit of tundra to deal with.. heh heh :D :ca I'm ready to head into another season full steam ahead and sharing ideas with you all again.

The first thing I cracked out was the Optimum No Rinse Wash.

Personally, I must admit, at the present time, I prefer GSRstilez's method of mixing QEW with QD :D

The Opt NR worked just as well in cleaning abilities, dried fine as well, but I found did not leave the finish as slick or with a bit of "pop" as the QEW mixture I'm used to.

However, the differences in results may be due to this:

I used the Opt. NR on a finish that had bare minimum of product on its clear coat, the finish over the winter only had what spray wax junk you get from those gas station soft cloth car washes.

Months back when I used my QEW, it was done on finishes that had a coat of (meg's , natty's or zaino) which could be diff ? :nixweiss

Anyways, look forward to a new season

You probably already know this, but wouldn't a fairer comparison be ONR mixed with the same ratio of QD (and the same QD in fact) that you were using with QEW? Either that or QEW by itself vs ONR by itself. The more constants, the better the test with just the variable of interest changing--that being the rinseless wash products themselves.

I thought the ONR QD came about through altering the dilution ratio (6 oz per gallon instead of 1/2 oz) and was not itself a component of the wash.

The Optimum no Rinse is just that a no rinse wash.

The fact that it is also a good Qd, window cleaner or clay lube is just an added bonus.

David did not add a Qd to it. We learned to make a Qd from it

Correct. I understand that. So as a wash, it might be better to compare it to QEW straight-up without QD added to it.

Just a thought.

I find on equally protected surfaces, mixes as instructed (ie, no QD added), Optimum leaves the paint noticably slicker than QEW. It also seems to do a better job on glass.

Both are excellent products but after using QEW for 13-14 years, I have switched to Optimum's No Rinse for the reasons above.

Not to hijack this thread but what is "...GSRstilez's method of mixing QEW with QD..."? I still have a gallon of QEW. :D

Probably same as mine, add an ounce of QD to the mix. :)

I agree with Scottwax. (but I don't have that much experience)

Hrmmm, I'm really curious now about this product. I'm about to place an order for some sort of QD. But now am leaning towards Opt as it can be a wash and a QD. But my question is, would it be okay to mix in lets say PB S&G or QS with Opt NRWS to make a QD? If so, what should the ratio be? 2 oz Opt, 1 oz QS/S&G, and 29 oz water? Or 2:2 on Opt and S&G/QS and 28 oz of water?

Question regarding QEW and ONR. Can you spray it on a car and then spray it down with water to get the dirt off? In the winter I like to go to the self serve car wash and spray the dirt off the paint. It is too cold to wash the car. Would the QEW or ONR loosen the dirt, so when I spray the car down the dirt will just melt away? I feel a little uneasy about wiping the dirt off the paint w/o rinsing it with water?

You don't fully wash your car down in the winter? :nervous:

do you just let the water/soap freeze on the car???

Chan-the proper dilution ratio for the Optimum QD is on the bottle, any alterations by adding other products, you are on your own. Just play around with it and see what works best.
