Back from the DEAD! Black '97 Maxima

This is my 1997 Nissan Maxima with 326,000 northeast miles. I got it my senior year in hs and have had it ever since. Two years ago I got an Acura Cl so the Maxima was relegated to backup and now winter beater. After a long stint at my parents it probably hadn't been properly detailed in more than two years, even well before that the most it got was megs 3 step. It has seen alot of road and the finish reflected it. So it was in pretty bad shape as you can tell from the before pics. It has alot of chips all over that are down to rust not to mention many scratches below the clear coat. So i had realistic expectations for the results. This was a two day detail where my brother and i both did our cars.

My process was as follows:

1. Wash with pb's super slick and suds

2. Clay

3 Wash again with sss

4. Polish with pb's ssr 2.5 by pc spread on 3 then work at 5-6(i'll tell u about my 6 discovery later)

5.Polish with ssr 1 by pc spread at 3 and work at 6

4. Sealed with pb's ex by pc at 4 x2 with 18hrs. curing time in between.

Here are the before and afters. Befores first.

Still some work to do but i now know that speed six on the pc is the optimum setting for swirl removal. I couldn't believe the results. Again this car has 326,000 miles.

Speed six is a god sent. I never realized the potential the pc had til i tried out speed six. I guess you could say i was a little afraid to go full speed but now that is the rule for swirl removal. It is definetly a ny vehicle. I go back and forth between maine and ny. I am currently in maine getting a full dose of winter while my baby (acura cl) is hiding out in storage in ny. I am from upstate, used to live in binghamton, but since my brother and i moved out my parents moved to a rural place where they could have no neighbors (my parents are anti-social :lol ). Greene, New York to be exact. Thanks for the complements.

Interested in the better sun pictures!!! Looks good for what I can tell, but I definately want to see those better after pics.

I'm not new to Maxima detailing, in fact, here's my Deep Evergreen 96 that I detailed:

Here are some closer up pics. The lighting isn't that much better so i got closer and used the flash in one. These were taken a little after i was done so there is a little dust on the car.

Big improvement. Looks like it could be better still but with that many miles I wouldn't want to be too aggressive and remove too much paint either.

I rarely hit max speed with my DA, as it can be very harsh on the pads. I'd rather hit the paint with the rotary.

Honestly, given the mileage, your area and the age of the car, it could have been much worse!

Looks like you made a nice recovery on your Maxima, it really has a nice glow now. :)

I definetly learned about speed six being harsh on the pads. Anyway there is definetly still some work to do, after a lifetime without proper polishing i was definetly confused as to how much clear i could safely remove. I think i will try out either menzerna or optimum polish next. I have heard good things about powergloss so i am anxious to try it. There are so many chips that you can't get a picture without some type of defect in it. Oh well, gives me something to do next nice day. Thanks for the tlps and complements.

Greene is definitely more rural than Binghamton! I am from the west side. Where abouts did you live?

Great job on the maxima btw, amazing how a car with that many miles is now so much better looking than the majority of cars on the road. :xyxthumbs
