Autopian home cleaning

I have begun to notice that I stick to a certain level of standard when I clean pretty much anything from washing the dishes to cleaning the bathroom in addition to my regular detailing job. I cannot possibly be the only one, so I was curious how many other Autopians are just as particular when cleaning your own house or cleaning jobs at work.

I know as a fact that, considering how I loved cleaning jobs around the house when I was 16 , my mother would not have let me get by so easily when I was under her roof. However, things have changed and I typically make sure that every nook, cranny, and speck is clean in my home. My fiancee already knows that "cleaning up the kitchen a bit" is going to take at least a full hour.

Sorry if this thread is a repeat, but I know that I am not the only Autopian to have waxed a kitchen counter or washing machine. :nana:

(Upon further review, maybe this would have been better suited in the OT forum. Sorry Mods if you need to move it. :o )

Yeah, I still live with my parents, and they are super anal, but i'm a whole new level. Things have to be in it's place and perfect at all times. Any room *I* go in must be perfect or i'll do it over. The exterior and yard/landscaping has to be spotless, or i'll do it. I've waxed most all of our showers (ones that arent tile) and all of our kitchen surfaces with some OCW at some point in time lol.

Same goes with my barn and beachhouse.

I'm pretty anal about cleaning the house. I clean and pick up a lot but the only problem is the times I get hella anal is around 11pm or midnight if I'm still up LOL. I don't know why but thats when it happens. I guess I'm just fed up with it and start cleaning. If I wash the dishes water gets on the counter, well then I have to clean the water off the counter, then the rest of the counter needs to be cleaned. After that the stove looks dirty so thats cleaned, so on and so on. Its kind of a pain in the a$$ to tell you the truth. Everything has to be aligned the same way, magnets on the fridge, place mats on the table, etc. A small bit of OCD I think.

Wow. I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. It is a constant struggle for me to keep my place clean. But in all fairness, every other week I work +-100 hours. I blame it on ADHD.:tumblewee

Ha ... I was thinking about this recently. I used to be kinda sloppy with both my home and car. But after discovering Autopia, I started keeping my car cleaner. Then I felt guilty that my home was still sorta messy, so I started keeping my home cleaner. I still have some clutter here and there, but I am trying to better myself.

I used to be extremely anal about keeping the house picked up and everything clean. I am still pretty bad about it, but we have a two month old daughter, and it is getting close to being an act in futility. Once she can walk, I will probably have to ease up a little.

I keep my room half clean at my summer home. When I live in the city for school I tend to keep the the place a lot cleaner. Dunno why it's like that.

Same here. Problem is, when I got particular keeping the house up I got stuck doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen full time! I can't stand a dirty kitchen or messy floors; my wife and kids can for the most part.

It can get kinda messy around here but when I clean...I CLEAN. Oh yeah, often at 11:00pm, on a Friday. I dunno why. I'm 46 now but I was that way when I was in my 20's also.

I was thinking about trying Rejex on the granite countertops in our bathrooms. Anybody?

Same thing with me, I will start a cleaning project at 10:00 P.M. and finish at 1:00 A.M.

Sickness or obsessive? I'm 51!

I was plagued by this as well...

It ruled my life

Everything had to be PERFECT:

Lawn

Cars

House

Laundry

Hair

Skin

I mean EVERYTHING even down to the spacing of the way the cars were parked in the driveway... IT"S NOT GOOD!!! It can ruin a relationship (ask me how)

To women you date it may seem "cute" but trust me, once you become serious and start living with or even marry it no longer is "cute".

This bothers me, too. When I moved in with my fiancee she was always complaining about a fruit fly problem. Well, what do ya know, it's because of all the dirty dishes laying on the counter and in the sink with half drank soda cans all over the house. :secret

I am slowly teaching our 5 year old to clean up after herself and to help me clean the house, but I have a feeling that it's a lost cause with my future-wife. I'm just waiting for the day my daughter says, "mom doesn't do it, why do I have to?"

Also, is it a female thing to leave clothes all over the house? I have a simple mantra that messes should stay in their respective rooms. Dirty dishes in the kitchen; dirty clothes in the bedroom (or laundry room!), etc. If just this were followed it would be so much easier to keep things straight. But, as it is, I need to search for an hour in the living room, basement, bathroom, and dining room to find a clean pair of PJs for the kid.

What do you use on hard water staining on glass showers?

Don't want to hijack, but perhaps some of you wouldn't mind listing detailing products that you use in the house.

I dunno, I don't really obsess, it's just when I finally get started and decide to do it right it gets kind of comical.

Even in our early years of marriage when my step-kids would leave for a couple of weeks of "quality time" (LOL) with their "father" (another LOL) my wife and I would stay up late with the Hefty bags and order pizza at midnight cleaning all of the old cr*p out of the kid's rooms - plenty of beer & wine included...then hop in the spa around 2:00am!

I crack me up.

Gel-Gloss, it is for fiberglass, marble, acrylic, and stainless steel. Use it on your tub by hand or DA and it will shine. It has carnauba wax in it with mild cleaners so it cleans and protects. It works on chrome and porcelian too, yes I have a shiney toilet lol. Anyways it is supposed to be good on RV and Marine gel coats but I havent gone that far.........yet.

I use Poliseal on the sink but it always comes off when I use the scrubbin bubbles days later. Looks good until that though. I also use turtle wax chrome polish on the TP holder and shower chrome when I get hard water spots. And of course auto glass cleaner. It has been years since I actually bought a bottle of windex. I just grab whatever glass cleaner that I've got in my car.

Interesting note: I've notice a direct correlation between beer consumption and a decrease in cleaning. Shocker.:think2
