Autopian Drivers

Well I am a slow driver, checking out other cars on the road and comparing with my car. When I see any car, my mind start doing analysis - u need this polish , this sealant or this wax. Look at those dirty wheels, caked with brake dust. Numerous times checking out side mirrors to see reflections on my car. As a result, driver behind me loose patience and overtakes me ... :D

Hi to SilvaBimma ....

i dont know if you could consider my dad an Autopian, as he's only clayed 1 vehicle in his lifetime and then sat back and watched me polish the whole dern truck...

but the family (including my 12 yr old sister) kind of looks at speed limits as a minimal speed limit. i have formulated an excellent plan to allow fast drivers to drive fast safely on highways (but thats another story).

as long as you are comfortable with your driving skills, i dont really see a problem with exceeding a speed limit slightly. i believe i read somewhere that on average more accidents occur because of people going slower than the posted speed than they do with higher speeds? :nixweiss

i might write up a thread about my new idea for the Car and Driver in the next few days.

Most drivers are over confident. They drive without using defensive driving skill. That's how accidents happen.

I tend to be a careful driver. I try to obey traffic laws. I drive the interstates daily to go see clients and I have seen too many accidents due to speeding and unsafe conduct. Be careful and stay safe  .

Extremely careful around especially around trucks. I stay as far back away from them as I possibly can.

I thought that was just me:D

I obey the speed limits allways careful around town areas but when there is no-one around on a back-road I allways like to push the car and enjoy driving:xyxthumbs But there no better place to let it all go than on a racetrack:cool:

Understand your car, know its limits and driving will be a lot more fun

Cars are supposed to be fun, or at least enjoyable.

So, I've always driven them like I rented them. :xyxthumbs

I drive my 92 Miata B&T like I STOLE it!

But, I am vigilant... it's the other guy that bothers me!

For the most part I am a very sedate driver. However, there are times when I step it up a notch in a careful way e.g. unobstructed freeway onramp. I love my M3, but sometimes find it difficult to give the 333 HP enough exercise.

It is not only your duty to excercise the engine it also needs it. Alfa Romeo recommend running the engine at 4,500 to 6,000 revs for a few miles to clear out the system if a lot of town (slow) driving is normal. The engine responds very well afterwards. I am sure your M3 would be even better.

Thanks for the advice. I now feel it is my duty and responsiblilty to start letting this engine get some exercise. It does have an 8000 RPM redline. On the down side, I found out a few days that there is a service bulletin out that will require the replacement of the connecting rod bearing in my engine. This is major surgery, and it worries me. Plus I will have a second 1200 miles break-in where I need to limit it to 5500 RPM.

I think Autopian drivers park differently - close to landscaped borders/dividers to minimize door dings for example. :D

Absolutely, nice strong legs from hiking to my location from the furthest points of the parking lots! :D
