Autopia Revolutions

Microfibre has revolutionised the detailing industry and I'm really getting into layering now but I'm interested in your thoughts on what will be the next thing to revolutionise the industry and will certain methods and products used today, come to the end of their era. Circular motion, cheesecloth and chamois days are over so what's next I wonder

What about polishes etc that you don't wipe off after application.

Spray waxes with durability and shine of a paint sealant, so that time is saved. Questionable for sure but who thought 50 years ago that there would be such things as MF's and the awesome paint protection products that we have now

Spray polymers with good durabiltiy will be coming, IMO.

I also think as the new Federal Government regulations on car-care products get phased in, you will see many product makers abandon "traditional" products and methods, and focus on more high tech, polymer based, formulas. Natural waxes have been around for years, and the technology in them is exhausted IMO, but it's just the tip of the iceberg with polymers, many good things could lie ahead.

The utopian Autopian of the future will have no shills & no spammers, newbies will know what the acronyms mean and will make their first 30 posts in AU, nobody will try to post a signature above 3 lines long, and everybody will LOVE the moderators. :D

Dreamer! :p ;)

I think the future might be easy use "no buff" products that fill in swirls and last a very long time. Some products are already trying to head this way it seems.

Other than this, I think that new "self-healing" nanotech paint might be the next big revolution.

I think this stuff will totally revolutionize detailing from here to as far as the eye can see...

SINNER!!!

I'm really hoping somebody will find a really "perfect" polish. Everybody has their favorite, but i'm hoping for one that will do jsut about anything. Far out there, but we can hope, right?

Also, i like that "memory metal". Saw some of the stuff on display once, holds its shape really well, and if it gets dented or whatever, just pour some warm water on it and pop! Back to its original shape, no dents or anything. Imagine a pair of bumpers made out of that stuff!! That'd be awesome.

BWAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!!! I haven't laughed so hard in years! LOLOLOL Wouldn't that be the best future?? LOLOL That woudl be great! It will probably happen right after they make a black car that can't swirl and repels dust, but it would still be great!

I think in the future there will be more advances in automotive paint and car manufacturing that will direct the changes in the car care industry. If they could make a paint that is harder to swirl then they will likely have to make abrasives that are matched for that kind of paint. I like the idea of super polymers that last longer than 3 months. I am sure that CMA and Pinnacle and PAC are working on stuff like that.

We haven't had any revolutions in glass care or interior care lately. Perhaps someone will invent an Aquapel type product to compete with RainX on the consumer level. We could use something new for the interior too. Maybe a dash protectant that smells like new car and activates when the sun hits it or something. lol Time will tell.

I know I look forward to the future. Just think... 3 years ago we didn't have Blackfire and UPP and Wolfgang. Blitz and Souveran were all the rage and the Zaino/Klasse battle didn't seem like it would ever end. Think about where we will be 3 years from now....

I personally believe most the revolutions coming ahead lie with the automotive paint manufacturers themselves rather than the aftermarket polishing companies.

Mercedes recent advancement in clear coat technology is an example of that.

The aftermarket polishing companies will have to go through a simliar transition as they did for the single stage paint to clearcoat generation.

I'd imagine that clearcoats will get harder and harder over the next 10 years so developing a polish that has enough cutting action to deal with the issue and yet diminish quickly enough to bring a high gloss finishing effect will prove the trickest part for the everday user i.e. Meguiars 1-2-3 step.

For the pro's and avid enthusists, it'll be less of an issue as we'll continually seek the best products.

FWIW, I'm with Jngrbrdman and Paco: it'll likely be advances in paint and automotive tech that drive the future.

For one thing, what if they come up with a way to entirely prevent oxidation? It's my (very very limited) understanding that they did something similar for marine environments long ago. To prevent sea water from attacking submerged metal, they offer up sacrificial bits of metal, then run a light electrical current to (between?) the bits. Somehow this makes only the bits corrode, leaving the other metal unscathed. (Please don't flame me if this simplistic explanation is off the mark -- correction, on the other hand, would be most welcome. :o )

Anyway, if they could somehow do something along those lines for cars, paint oxidation would be no more. Of course, such an advance could prove to be dangerous for Autopian experimenters, who might be shocked by their results. :)

I thought about this a lot and I think in the near future ther will be a wax we spay on our cars and wash off with a hose the chemicles in the special wax bond to the paint when combined with water

I agree with Jngrbrdman and Paco, too. The automotive paint technology of companies like Dupont, Glasurit, Sikkens, Rinshed Mason and PPG will determine the finish protectants of the future.

I think the next thing you will see in automotive paint is a totally light reflective paint, much like Scotchlite striping on emergency vehicles.
