Autopia pronounciation

So I was talking to my wife about this site and she pretty much made me feel stupid as it seems I have been pronouncing the name of the forum totally wrong.



I was pronouncing it auto-peea



She told me it should be autopeeyah



Boy do I feel stupid.



Has anyone else made this mistake or I am just dumb??
 
So it appears I have been pronouncing it correctly!!



It doesn't happen very often but it appears my wife was wrong!
 
I was actually pronouncing it wrong.... I read the above post incorrectly.



So from now on it is au-toe-pee-yah and not au-toe-pee-a.



The wife was right but I will keep it to myself!
 
at first i called it like stated .. auto --- peeea



but then my GF said i was saying wrong .. its au --- topia
 
I think we (sorry me;)) need a database with audio files with the proper pronunciation of all the different terms, names, and products. I am getting far too many wrong.

It appears that is the correct way to say it.



I always thought that was the purpose of the name but I still pronounced it wrong. I just focused on the auto part because of the whole car thing and just added pia to the end of it....



So to all the people who were saying it wrong (me included)



auto-pia = incorrect



Utopia with an A in front = correct!

That's how I pronounce it. And it SHOULD be correct. I was the spelling-bee champ at my grade school 2 years in a row when I was a kid. I'd better know how to pronounce words or my grammar teachers would come back to haunt me! :D
 
Todd and I were just talking about this this weekend and how funny some people's pronunciation of it is.

But you can’t get that from the way it’s spelled, not using phonetic rules for English anyway.





In one sense the correct answer is “however DavidB wants it to be pronounced,� since he’s the one who came up with it for this place. Although the word has been used before, since our Mayor made up the place he gets to make the call on what it’s named, how it’s spelled and how it’s pronounced.



I’ve always pronounced it ah’-tow-pea-yuh. I can’t say if that’s right or wrong, only that that’s how Disneyland pronounces their word that’s spelled the same way. I’ve been going there and hearing it that way for way too many years.
