Autoglym or Z-12

After searching and reading about removing scratches from my windshield I have found that I really can't do much. However, two products kept coming up Autoglym and Z-12. I have heard some goods things about them but not to expect miracles. I need help deciding on the two to help remove/reduce fine scratches (not deep enough to feel) on my windshield (2000 Honda Accord).

I talked to Sal Zaino and he said that I need to be careful because the product might actually scratch the windshield causing more damage. He was very honest and wanted to know how I made out.

Have any of you had problems with any of these products especially when using a PC? Can you suggest any tips on usage? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have them both and they work well. Frankly, there's not a huge diff between them.

I can't say they're aggressive enough to remove fine scratches, but they may be if several applications are attempted.

Sal is 100% correct about being careful with your windshield. Modern glass is much softer and thinner than in years past and what worked well then may cause damage now.

I've got a car to detail soon that will need some PC glass polishing. I'll use one or both of those products and report back. For now I suggest you order whichever product you prefer and work by hand. If you need to bust out the PC, do so as a last resort. Good luck and let us know how things go.

~One man’s opinion~

Both Autoglym Glass Polish & Fast Glass don’t contain abrasives, I use these products and have been pleased with the results.

I don’t have any experience with Z12, but I’m assuming Sal Zanio doesn’t think it will work.

I would try #000 or #0000 synthetic wool and see how it looks (as only you know how deep the scratches are)

The Autoglym site says Glass Polish contains 'cleaning and polishing elements'. I have liked the polish for many years but using it with a buffer took the shine to a new level.

I have only used Z12 of the 2 products you mentioned. Z12 did a great job at polishing the glass that does not have much mileage or road damage. I have used it both by PC ( yellow pad) and by hand on GM glass without causing any adverse effects.

I have removed some pretty stubborn glass problems with the Autoglym polish and a rotary buffer. If you can feel it, it's in there and not coming out. If it's a surface marring problem, there's a good chance you can remove it or bring it back to 90%.
