Auto Magic BC-1

Hi all! Does anyone have experience with Auto Magic BC-1? I bought a 1/2 liter of it from the dealer here in HU, used it and liked it. Then I decided to buy a gallon. I don't know what was different between the 2 versions that I got, but I'm just not having a good experience with the version that I have now. I'm sure it's the same product but for some reason the 1st version that I used was much better... My problem is that it disappears very shortly after I start to work with it. Then I add a bit more and eventually it starts to spit out globs of the product, starts grabbing, buffer starts hopping, etc. From what I understand this product is meant to be a "wet" polish, but how do you keep it "wet" without adding more product?? I've tried using water, spraying a little QD on it, etc. but the results are the same... disappears after a couple passes and I can't see that there's anything to work with. Furthermore, it's tearing up my pads :furious:!!! I've been forced to buy other medium polishes because the BC-2 just isn't cutting it... literally. Any advice that you guys have would be much appreciated because I'm out of ideas and out of a lot of money that I spent on it if I can't get this stuff to work. Cheers!

I know thez have a good line of products and what not, but I'm having difficulty with the BC-2. Any advice on using it?

BC2 is ment to be fast. It was used mainly on used cars were a fast shine was needed. It will not do corrections. It is not a compond . I watched a detailer doing used cars buff a car with BC2 in 20 minutes with a rotary and wool pad and left no swirls. He followed with Mothers liquid carnuba, and the car looked very nice.

OK but do you have any suggestions about how to keep it from clumping up in the pad? Because surely I can't do the entire car with just a few drops that never dry up...

Sounds like something's on the paint that's creating the problem. Is the paint oxidized? Try uding the product on another vehicle to compare. Although BC-1 has a shorter work time than BC-2, I've never experienced what you are going through. Feel free to call Auto Magic & speak to Rick Schmidt. He'll definately be able to shed some light.

Thanks for the reply! Well I'm sure it's not a problem with the paint being contaminated. I've been detailing for quite a while now so I'm sure that my prep is solid... and it does it with every car I do even in different conditions (body temp, etc.) What's your average work time with BC-1?? Mine's about 2 passes max... the product is still there on the pad (damp) and just starts to grab/hop, but no trace of it on the car. Then starts to coagulate after I put more and the problems start there.

I work it atleast for atleast 8-10 passes before spraying it down with body shine lube. So you ever re-wet your surface to prolong your work time? Are you using a wool pad? (It dries faster with wool). I really like using BC-1 with a cutting foam pad. What brand of pads are you using and are they cleaned after each pass?

Yeah, I've tried spraying the panel with a bit of body shine or a QD as a lube (water also), but again, it disappears after a couple of passes. I use Riwax (Lake Country I believe) and Scholl cutting pads, polishing pads, etc. I use wool pads occasionally but the same thing happens regardless of the pad. Also, I'm a stickler about cleaning the pad after every panel, but with BC-1 I can't really "clean" it because there's still moist product in the pad so nothing really comes out :(. I don't know what it is but it feels like I'm trying to polish with a wax. If you have any AM Quick Wax, try polishing a panel with it and you'll get the feel of what's happening with me.

UPDATE: Well I wrote AM a letter explaining the problem and got no response. I wrote it to the general "info" email address because they don't have a specific email box for problems. Then I called Rick and left a message with my number and got no call back. Needless to say I had to take matters into my own hands and I rectified the problem. Based on the symptoms of the problem, the polish was lacking lubrication... so I gave it some lube :)... the most natural thing I had at home was olive oil so I added about a teaspoon to my dispenser bottle of BC-1. Shook it for about 2-3 minutes to make sure it was mixed well then tried it out... worked like a dream! I polished the left side of my car with a 4" cutting pad and my new chemically re-engineered BC-1 in a matter of minutes! OK, the polish was a bit hard to remove, but thinking in retrospect BC-1 was never easy to remove from the paint once it was dry. I used a clay lube mix of ONR and water to take it off... I think I'm going to buy some different oils next week and see if there's some that work better than olive oil... I'm very stoked now because I don't have to chunk out an entire gallon of polish!

Imagine what it will look like in a couple of weeks :nervous2:

Actually ,after a couple months they still looked good. In Augest I did my daughters car the same way , but instead of finishing with Mothers Carnuba I used Turtle Wax Platinum and it still looks good . Somethimes a quickie works just fine.
