Hey fellow detailers, I'm from Australia :wavey and have been glancing over your forums for a while now. Thought I would stick some photos up of my ute. You guys call them pickups over there i think. I'll leave details of it at that for now but if you wanna know anything about it just ask and I'll go further into it.

I work as a detailer in a Large wholesale/retail yard

Anyway here is my pride and joy, the photos were taken by me at a magazine photoshoot unfortunately I dont have the skills of the photographer  Bear in mind the car has done about 100kms (60miles) here thus isnt perfectly clean either.

Its a 2001 Ford XR8 ute 5L Windsor V8

What do you all think ? Nice depth and gloss for 4 year old factory paint

Thanks for the comment.

Why no XR8's in the USA, Probally the same reason we dont get the F150 lightning over here  or any of the mustangs. :wall.

I cant wait to make a trip to the USA for some parts shopping and some drooling over the American Musclecars

very nice. what lsp did you use? the last pic is so reflective. Looking at the first pic, i didn't even realize that your car would be a pickup!

LSP ??? (probally different name for it here ??)

My topcoat wax at the moment is Megs NXT tech wax.

The xr8 utes are based on a sedan thus have the sedan front end. (aftermarket body kit/interior on mine though + a heap of other stuff)

Wow, how come you guys get all those sweet Falcons and Holdens and we don't get any? That thing is seriously the ultimate El Camino, and I'm sure it'd sell well up here in Maine :).

Sylox,

Great to see another aussie on Autopia. Some great work on your ute. Do you find the Ford paint to be hard compared to Merc, BMW?

Hope to see more of your work

Havent had many Bmw's or mercs though work, but I've found the ford paint to be pretty good it has far far less orange peel in it than many of the bmw's/mercs etc i have seen.

For ease to work on I find the Commodores pretty good (GMH) :buffing:

So more pics but these ones are only driveway shots

nice shots and welcome to autopia!! :welcome

...quite like the shot of the front left wheel arch with the 'tickford badge'.

I sure have seen a lot of BA's and AU's on here....where are all the Holdens I thought Holdens outsold ford the last few years! :D I guess Ford owners look after their cars more?!? :lol

To paraphrase a line form the film "My Cousin Vinnie"

"What's a ute?" :LOLOL

I guarantee that Ford USA could sell a lot of those. That is a sweet looking vehicle!

Ford actually had an El Camino competitor, it was called the Ranchero. Looks like a modern version. I don't even like Fords, and that thing is NICE! Would be an interesting car to sell here in the States. I bet it would do well. Heck, I see a fair number of SSRs on the road and those are hideous.

Alway clay bar it first up with a Megs clay bar

Its been buffed with Autoglym 03b

Then used Megs quickdetailer to buff the marks the autoglym leaves

Megs scratch X by hand

Autoglym super resin polish by hand

Megs NXT Tech wax liquid (we cant get the paste yet. is it worth it anyway ?)

Usually it just cops a quick clay bar and a NXT as the paint is pretty good they are a few light scratches here and there but for the amount of kms (miles) it does its just not worth me digging them out, and the bonnet will get re-sprayed soon. Its starting to get peppered with stone chips.

She has about 108,000kms on the clock (a bit over 60,000miles) so i am happy with it.

There are plans for a full respray in the future to take out some of the minor defects here and there also to fill the plugs from the tonea hooks on the tray, delete the ariel, do a custom job on the tail gate and maybe shave the door handles and change them to solenoid release.

Wow. Nice work. I really like your truck. Are those aftermarket wheels or stock cause they look pretty sweet. To answer your question about the NXT paste wax I would say it's pretty worth it in my opinion. I haven't tried the liquid version, but from my experience it was very easy to apply a thin coat and remove and even if it doesn't differ from the liquid I think you would at least be able to make a whole tin a lot longer than the liquid version.

Very cool ute. Ford should have brought that here...but with safety regs what they are....ain't gonna happen.

A bit off topic, but GM is trying to bring a Holden model here...and make it sell. The Monaro is not selling well in the states as the GTO.

I have long been a fan of the Aussie cars....especially the early '70s Valiant Charger. Too cool.

The GTO isn't selling well because the styling is circa 1993 at best. Awesome engine in those cars, but atrocious styling.

The wheels are after market 18x8 ROH fury's. I'm actually waiting for ROH to release these in 20's towards the end of this year and fit 20's to the rear and 19"'s to the front to fill the guards a bit better :dance

And on the NXT topic I'll give the paste a try when we finally get here. :xyxthumbs
