Audi CVT transmission

Does anyone have any experience with the Audi CVT transmission. Good? Bad? I am thinking of buying an Audi with a CVT. What do you think?
 
My two cents so take it for what it is worth. The only manufacturer that seems to make a decent CVT is Nissan. While the CVT in theory works, in practice it is much harder to make it seem smooth like a conventional transmission.( even harder on higher horsepower setups) It is a hard adjustment for many to accept that the slipping is normal and not indicitive of an oncoming tranny failure. I would second "Baker's" post. Audi/VW makes a superb Direct Shift gearbox/paddle shifter tranny which is a compelling alternative to a manual transmission.
 
Thanks for your replies. I guess I could have looked at an Audi forum, but I love this place. I think i am going to shy away from the CVT. I heard it can cost 8K to fix. Yuck!
 
In general, I have always found manual transmissions much more affordable to repair -as well as being a more rewarding drive.

Dead on. Nissan really is the only good one. The one in the cube is quite good.



They really tend to be for low hp cars. And for Audi, their standard auto and DSG units are perfectly good. The DSG is incredbile, but not on every model, and is not comfort oriented. The S-Tronic auto offered on most non R-Tronic (DSG) cars seems to work just fine.
