Audi clear coat

I'm going to be trying to remove some holograms and water spots from a 99 Audi A4. I'll be using optimum compound to get the majority of the defects out. My question is this, will I be able get anything done with my PC or will I have to bust out the Makita? If I do end up using the Makita, could I use a less abrasive polish and still get decent results?

Personally, I would just to a test section and see which one gives you the best finish be it via rotary or PC. I think you should just OC with the makita.

Audi clear is pretty hard.

I hear Audi clear is very hard as well.

Might try something light with the rotary or something with heavy cut with the PC.

All just depends how bad the holograms are. I worked on a 99 Vette (very hard clear as well) that had machine induced holograms and I could not get them out with the PC and the most harsh pad and compound combo, I had to resort to the rotary with two different passes to get it back to perfect.

If the holograms/etc. are remotely severe I'd use the rotary first. I'd be careful about trying to remove the waterspots, I left the etching in the roof of my wife's A8 after pretty aggressive rotary work didn't get it out.

I'm not familiar with OC, sorry. But I'd get things pretty good by rotary before you switch to the PC/etc. as the hard clear makes for tough going with milder machines. I can never accomplish much of anything on Audis by PC unless I use 4" pads.

I usually do two steps by rotary and then two more by PC/Cyclo. Each of those steps might need to be repeated though.
