Arizona detailing trip #7

Another trip to Phoenix/Tucson. Was also supposed to do a vehicle in Las Cruces (NM) but the owner didn't realize I'd be coming back through as early as I did. Oh well, have to catch it on the next trip.

2004 Roush Mustang. I'd detailed this one about 18 months ago, since then its seen a lot of track time, California Dusters and a car cover. After we looked it over, the owner has decided to invest in some ONR and skip the duster.

Just a few before/after pics, knew this would be a long day even with just doing two steps (also detailed the interior) so I had to get cracking.

Polish and compound-as obvious by the movement of the sun, a lot of time passed! This was not a full on correction, the car will continue to be tracked so just getting a good reduction in the swirls would be enough.

Process:

ONR wash, Opti-Raser mild to clay

Meguiars M100 using an Optimum MF cutting pad (both Meguiars MF and foam cutting and Optimum foam orange cutting pads were hazing too much) using my Rupes 21 DA

3D HD Polish using an Optimum MF polishing pad and Rupes DA

Optimum Opti-Seal

Armor All on tires/wheel wells

-------------------

2004 Toyota Camry. Only 30k miles on it. Yes, I know it has Texas plates. It was his mother's car and she lived in El Paso. Anyway, with a 3 car garage and 4 cars, the Camry is the odd man out and is a year away from being their oldest son's first car. Protection was the key here. The owner had previously polished the car so overall it was in pretty good shape.

ONR wash, spot clay with Opti-Raser mild

Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum MF cutting pad and Rupes 21 DA

ONR wash

Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 (owner provided)

Optimum Opti-Glass on the windshield

Optimum Lens Coating on the headlights

Armor All on tires/wheel wells

2008 Toyota Solara. It was in pretty good shape, only real issue was the garage door caught the "SOL" on the back of the trunk lid, leaving the "ARA". I went ahead and removed the rest of the lettering. I offered to fully debadge the back end but its the owner's girlfriend's car and since she was in flight and he wasn't able to contact her, he didn't want to make that decision.

ONR wash, Opti-Clay to remove some overspray from the body shop (rear bumper resprayed due to an accident)

Optimum Power Clean at 3:1 to clean the convertible top, then rinsed

Optimum Hyper Polish and an Optimum MF cutting pad and Rupes 21

Optimum Opti-Seal

Armor All on tires/wheel wells and rear muffler (amazing how much better tire dressing can make mufflers look!)

Optimum Metal Polish on exhaust tip

Woolite/water at 20:1 to clean the leather and vinyl

Optimum Carpet/Upholstery cleaner on the carpets

Optimum Power Clean at 3:1 to clean floor mats, then rinsed out with high pressure water, squeegeed and air dried-huge improvement but front mats probably need replacing

Meguiars Gold Class for leather to condition the leather

Optimum Protectant Plus to dress the vinyl

---------------------

2011 Saab 9.3. This one has some factory upgrades, like the exhaust. Really nice inside and out, guess it completes the owner's collection. He has this sedan, a 9.3 wagon, 9.4 Suv and the 9.5 luxury/sport sedan. Shame Saab went under, all four are really nice vehicles.

This 9.3 had sat on two dealers lots before finally being purchased so it had over 2 years of dealership washes, customers and sales people leaning on it and touching it. Plus rail dust. Ended up being a nearly 14 hour detail including a little touch up the following day. White can be really tough to correct since once you get it 90-95% corrected, finding the last 5-10% takes a lot of time with lights going over the car at all angles.

Did I mention the rail dust? Couple shots of IronX (which smells HORRIBLE, btw) putting in some work:

Some before shots:

After

Full process:

ONR wash

Car Pro IronX sprayed on, allowed to dwell to break up rail dust particles

Rinsed off

ONR wash and Clay Magic Purple (aggressive) to clay

Meguiars M100 using a Meguiars MF cutting pad and my Rupes 21 DA-several areas needed multiple, slow passes. This step alone took about 5 hours!

Optimum Hyper Polish using an Optimum MF cutting pad and Rupes

ONR wash

Optimum Coating (pro version)

Optimum Opti-Glass on windshield

Optimum Lens Coating on head and tail lights

Armor All on tires

Close to straight up noon when I took these the next day, direct sun and white paint made it hard to capture just how glossy the paint turned out.

Fantastic as always Scott!!!   Any reason why you don't use Optimum Protectant Plus on the leather???

In most cases, conditioning is what the leather needs more than anything else. OPP does a great job on protection but it really isn't meant for conditioning.

Looks like a good trip Scott. Owner of the stang should just pony up and Opti-Coat it. Nice correction though. California Dusters, evil! A stable of Saabs, aways look forward to seeing these from you, he does a good job keeping them up! IronX is good stuff but your right the smell is horrible! Even the "New" cherry "Better" smelling formula is BS! I always do it outside. Solara, if the matts were replaced the interior looks brand new! Lot's of work and I'm sure good eats, successful trip.

Definitely a good trip. The Roush owner tracks the car so there is always the risk of debris hitting the car, spinning out and hitting something, etc. Guess it isn't worth it to him to get it coated since if something happens it might be 6-7 months before I'd be back to take care of it. He did say he was going to look into using ONR to wash the car. Told him to ditch the duster and QD and to actually wash with ONR after track days.

Next time I see the Saabs it will mostly be just interior work and washes. Maybe touch up an area or two on each. Maybe then I can get a shot of all four sitting outside.

Agree on the Solar and let him know. But you should have seen the mats before...they were really bad! He was amazed I got them that clean. But otherwise the interior was mint.

Wish I'd known in advance (before I'd headed down to Tucson) that the guy in Las Cruces wasn't going to be back in town until Tuesday and I'd be coming back here to rain. Could have done a car or two more in Phoenix and Tucson. And I'd have been able to have more Filibertos!

<span style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">have to catch it on the next trip.
