Are my wheels too far gone?

Road salt and brake dust are killing my wheels...this is what they look like after a good never-dull cleaning. Is there anything I can do to get this crap off of my wheels?

Ouch that looks tough!!!

IMO, I would say that they are beyond polishing. But when you're driving people can't see it anyway. The only one that notices is you.

My wheels are in bad shape too. I'm planning on painting them as a project this summer. Looking forward to it.

Good luck with those and let me know how they turn out.

Best,
Dan

I was afraid of that, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but it makes my ass hurt when I look at it.

Why does your butt hurt when you look at it? Are you sitting down on the ground when you look at your wheels?

AHHH!! MY EYES MY EYES!!!!

Man, that road salt must be some killer stuff. I guess if you already given them a good cleaning then they are probably fooked. I would suggest trying some aluminum polish, but as mentioned before I don't know that that would help. Sorry for your misfortune there. I guess, start saving for some new rims.

Not to hijack, but what would be a good way to protect the wheels from something like this? I too live in a high road-salt area.

Regular cleaning of course, but is there some product, like wax, that would protect them good?

It makes me clench because they were such beautiful wheels

Wax will make them look good after detailing but once you start driving and using your brakes the wheels will heat up and start dissapating the wax so it won't last . you can use wheel sealant which has a higher melting point due to the chemical make up.( polymers ) .I would say deffinately regular cleaning so the salt and brake dust cant have time to etch the surface.

Demontooth if you're out of options on what to use, I've use wheel acid on damaged rims and got good effects. I think its Hydroflouric acid and is strong stuff. Dilute it 1:1 w/water , spray and aggitate then rinse . Don't let it sit too long on your rims. Also if you have clearcoat or gelcoated rims this acid discolor it soo be very careful . I use it alot but would n't want you to mess up your wheels from improper use..

I used the clay on the wheels tonight with positive results...it didn't get all of it off, but it did help some
