Are multiple coats of Autowax effective?

My car has been garaged for the last four days while I've had some time off. Because I can't go more than 24 hours without doing something to it, I've been using Duragloss Aquawax on top of the 105 I laid down last weekend.

Is it just me, or does Aquawax have a 'layering' effect? It seems like the gloss is getting deeper after each coat, but that just could be my rationalization for my irrational behavior :)

On a side note, my first impression of Duragloss 105 and Aquawax is a very good one!

it may be layering or may just be getting a more complete coverage and adding to the look that way. I dont think anyone has actually proved either way, but appearance does seem to improve after a few applications

That's what I've noticed.......plus, it only takes about 5 minutes to do the entire car. Good thing I don't have another two weeks off, or I'd use the whole bottle!

I have noticed that Aquawax seems to diminish the super-tight beading of Collinite, as my car is not beading very well any more(3 month old application of 845, then AW a week later). We will see once it actually warms up enough to hand wash it. Just some food for thought...

BTW, its AQUAwax, not AUTOwax.

i feel that two coats are better than one...but any more than that is a mental satisfaction only. the second coat helps to ensure complete/even coverage.

It does'nt really diminish the beading, its just a different kind.

Carnauba = tight, "sticky" beads

Sealant (like Aquawax) = "loose" beads that slide off easily

Although cosmetically, carnauba beads look nicer, I think a sealant beading type behavior is better for just daily resistance against the elements.

I agree. Anything more than 2 coats isn't helping anything except your ego. This following comment probably only applies to protection and not depth. (sorry if it's off topic)

What would be better in a month's time frame:

*3 coats of wax initially, wash car 4 times(once a week) and apply 4th after 4th wash

or

*Wash and wax after each of the 4 washes.

I think it's better to gradually build it up than to add it in one big chunk.

Actually it's like it's hardly beading at all...at least at the coin op. It is hard to tell, because nothing really beads well when it's dirty. However, another car I maintain has just 845, applied 2 weeks prior to my car, and at the coin-op it beads just fine. Prep was pretty much equal, so who knows?:nixweiss

AW like some other sealants seem to sheet water more then bead water. I know that on my car with AW on it after a hard rain will dry clean with no spots at all. There are times when my car will be dirty, and a rain will clean it. I like that about AW

AW, I don't know. But waxes and sealants do have a layering effect. Take what I use Pin. Souveran will layer but you must give the prior layer to cure. I think after 5 coats spit shining works better. At about 10 coats I see no effect. But you have a very deep shine. JMHO...............

This is the answer IMO. LSP's will not 'layer' or build up like stacking pieces of paper...a second coat may help ensure complete coverage and maximum bonding.
