Are certain products better for VW paint

On Classic Auto Care's website, they have a section dealing with German paint, and the products that work best on them.

They mention Menzerna polishes, AIO and P21S.

Is this true that Menzerna work better on this type of paint, and if so, does it apply to a VW made for America?

I currently have 3M PI III RC & MG, along with Sonus PC

Thx

Maybe not necessarily "better" but easier. Einszett (1z) is pretty user friendly and especially by rotary, Menzerna produces wonderful gloss.

I'll admit I haven't worked on a VW since my '87, but I dunno about all this "carmaker specific recomendation" stuff. And I'd bet my bottom dollar that VW/Porsche/Audi uses the same paint regardless of the final target market.

Heh heh, some sites (not to name names ;) ) talk about "soft German paint" and show somebody using a PC with the big green pad on an recent-vintage Audi A6, which has *incredibly hard* paint  Anyone who's worked on an newish Audi knows this is ridiculous...so I'm kinda skeptical about the whole "soft German paint" thing. And what about the Benz ceramiclear (sp?), that stuff sure isn't soft!

IMO the PI-III RC and MG are fine for every type of paint ever applied to a car. If anything, they're too mild for some (rare) paints.

Yep, I don't get the idea of Audi paint being soft.

I thought Porsche uses a different brand than VW Audi, Glasurit, IIRC

Me? I think, in today's worldwide economy, it is naive to think that different countries offer different paints!

Setting cost aside, they all have access to the BEST formulations available...

Yeah, economic considerations affect whether a Cavalier has the same finish as a topline Porsche, but the process is as important as the product. (Sound familiar?)

I own an 01 VW GTI VR6. Never saw a carwash, and the finish really is perfect... but, I firmly believe that the application of the paint is the key.

BTW, it is a 'hard' finish.

I have a black (black magic metallic) 99 VW Passat. I haven't used Menzerna, but I know that Klasse and P21S products work well on it. :xyxthumbs

I used the Menzerna twins on my Passat and it came out great; on my wife's Jetta, I stepped it up to DACP to get rid of some tougher swirls, though I have some PI-III and might just use that to begin next time.

I have an '02 Audi A4. I use IP with an orange or yellow 7.5" LC Constant Pressure pad and FPII with a white pad, I get very nice results.

I have some 3M compounding liquid that I used on my wife's old Toyota Rav4 with my yellow pad. It worked fine, but I thought it was bit aggressive. I'm open to another more product for more aggressive work, but my Audi is in pretty good shape now and my wife's new Subaru Forester is in execellent condition.

Regards,

Dan.
