Ardex 4200 wax/sealant, Vs Wolfgang and others?

Hi all, just joined and have a question regarding a product I was talked in to buying.

First I'm Sory for the long post.

I just bought a 2013 Tuxido black Ford Escape. I've been using maguires cleaner wax for years and liked it, was talking to people who told me to try a synthetic paint sealant, they said there great and last a lot longer. The two choices were Wolfgang and maguires 21 sealant 2.0.

I wasn't able to find either locally, so I stopped in a local detail supply store to see if they had either, he said he only sells commercial products and asked me what I was looking for. I told him a synthetic sealant that was easy to use, good for black and would last long.

He recommended this product (ardex 4200 express, wax and sealant) he said it worked great and last a long time.

I did not notice the word wax till I got home.

Did I just waist money? Is the maguires cleaner wax that I've been using and still have a lot of just as good.

Or is the amine-functional silicone polymers in the ardex a sealant like I was looking for?

I'm totally confused....

Thanks for your input

Lenny

If you were looking for something more durable, then yes you probably did waste your money. You did find the right place to get info though, welcome to Autopia.

Most waxes these days contain a synthetic element. A true carnauba that has no polymers is unlikely to last longer than a few weeks in extreme heat, especially on black. If you are happy with Meg's cleaner, there is no reason to stop using it, it is a pretty decent OTC wax, especially at its price. Its not that the Ardex product is bad, neither is M21 or Wolfgang, but there are products that will easily outlast them. Some readily available examples are Duragloss 105 and Collinite 845.

I've gotten about 2 months out of Meg's cleaner wax, 3 out of M21 and Wolfgang. I can get five to six months out of DG105 or Collinite 845.

Agree whole heartedly with Dan regarding the DG105--easily get 5-6 months protection with just monthly applications of DG Aquawax (spray on wipe off product). On my wife's black Golf did a layer of DG105 then topped it with HD POXY (hybrid sealant and wax) and it looks awesome. It's been 3 months and it still beads like the day it was applied.

You could just apply Collinite wax over top of the Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. I'm not familari with the Ardex, but if you can't take it back you could try applying it after the Cleaner Wax. The idea here is that the Cleaner Wax will do a little (eh, very little...) prep work and the second product will last longer.

I just figured that the car was brand new, and the paint was clean, I'll I would have to do is apply a sealant so the winter crap (Not that were going to get snow this year :nervous:) would wash off nice and easy.

I already put it on, I guess I'll see.

You'll be better off than most by having something on the car, but yeah, doing prep assures durability. Sort of like putting on cologne without taking a bath.

Welcome to the confusing world of detailing, take it slow..... otherwise the info overload is like trying to drink from a fire hose.

Just some basic advice:

Price does NOT mean quality or that it is better

Everything is the "best" just read the descriptions from the on-line stores!

Don't try to find the holy grail, it's a myth, find something that is easy to use, looks great and

you like it

That said, I'd give the paint a good wash, go over with Clay Magic Blue clay, wash again and wax. Otherwise you may be sealing in contaminants. I agree with DG 105 and DG Aquawax, 2 great OTC products and Clay Magic is available at most auto parts stores too. Between Carquest and Advance-Autozone, you'll be good. Oh, and get some DG car wash and a grout sponge from Home Depot (my 2 gotta have items!)

Use 2 buckets -one wash, one to rinse the sponge in, you'll be amazed by the rinse water in the end.
