approx time on claying and PC usage?

Guys,

I was wondering what's the average amount of time to do a clay job on a mid size car. I clayed yesterday and it took me about 2 hours. I think that was too long.

Secondly, whats the approx. time it takes to remove medium - to some heavy marring using an abrasive polish via PC?

I often get paranoid that I havent done enough.

I thik it depends on the size of the car, how much stuff you're trying to remove, and the condition of the surface to begin with.

For the PC question, that also depends on the product you're using, how bad the marring is, how hard the clear is (if any), etc. I don't think you can narrow it down to a specific time, but maybe with some pics and a product list, someone might be able to give you a better idea.

as long as it takes!

I can't really imagine claying for more than say...an hour though

polishing can take hours ....depends how much of a perfectionist you want to be --

Everything I do that involves detailing the car takes me a long time. It takes me about 2 hours just to wash it. I can easily spend 1 hour claying and my car is very well taking care of. A car that has never been clayed before and has a lot of contamination would take me longer. Polishing takes me a long time especially with he PC. I have gotten to the point that my details take several days. I will do a panel at a time over several days untill done. I read about people doing full inside and out details in about 6 hours and just don''t see how thats possible. The better I get at this the more time it's taking me because I get more picky.

I usually spend about 1 and 1/2 hours claying a mid-sized car. I'm one of the slower detailers here......washing usually takes me 1 1/2 hours.

Polishing depends on whatever I'm dealing with, how many passes, how many different products, etc. That's the most time consuming stage for me. It also takes me the span of a few days to do a "full" detail on the exterior. I tend to break up my car in to front, middle, rear and address each portion of the car in 3 different weekends.

I'd say a mid-sized car wash would vary depending on the car condition. If it's a (bi-)weekly maintenance wash, it'll only take me 30 - 45 mins. If it's really dirty, it can take up to 2 hours especially if those wheels have many spokes and have grime caked on.

As far as claying goes, to me it doesn't really matter how long it takes to get it done. You only do a full clay AT LEAST once a year but I prefer to do it twice. If you follow this regimen, it shouldn't be such a big deal on how long it takes you to clay.

Well, I thought the main reason for using a PC versus by hand is *Time saved*, since a PC moves much much quicker than an average person's hand. Yet, despite this speed, it still can take several hours. That is amazing to me. I don't care then. I'm just gonaa take all the time it takes for me to remove my marring.Hopefully I can get it all out.
