Applying thin products, like VM, by PC

I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm just not coming up with the right search keywords.

I love VM but seem to use far too much when applying by PC - i.e. ~4oz for a BMW 3 series sized car (paint, windows and trim). I've managed to find several posts saying that only around 0.5oz is used for a whole vehicle. I think my main problem is with it taking so much product to prime the pad. So far, I've just used Megs yellow polishing pads to apply VM.

I've just purchased a full set of Propel pads so maybe the blue or grey pads would be better for VM?

Is it worth using a MF bonnet over a pad? Would putting the VM into a spray bottle help (i.e. distrubute less product over a greater pad area)?

Any tips gratefully received.

One thing that may help would be to prime the pad with a detail spray by lightly misting it. After the pad is primed, you will use very little VM as it spreads like mad.
