Applying/Removing Poorboys PWC Blue and EX/EX-P

Hi All,

I plan to detail a new VW GTI this weekend. Since it is brand new, it does not have any major defects in the paint. I do see some very light swirls in certain lighting conditions, though.

My plan is as follows and I need some suggestions about applying and removing these products. I have a PC.

WASH

CLAY

PWC Blue
1-What LC pad----I am thinking a white polishing pad
2-Will this hide or take out the lite swirls, or should I use SSR1 first, and if I use SSR1, will this white pad be good enough?
3-How long to leave PWC on, and how well does it come off with a MF or Terry bonnet, or do you use MF by hand?

EX-P
1-What pad-I'm thinking a white polishing pad, but I could go to a black finishing>??
2-Any tips on applying?--
3-How long do you leave on and do you do the entire car at one time?
4-Removal----do you use a PC, and if so, is a MF or Terry bonnet the best? How easy is it to remove?
5-Any other tips?

Next steps:

1-I read somewhere in doing a search here that itr might be good to apply a couple layers of EX-P, then go to a single of EX to add some carnauba, then finally top with Natty's Bl. What do you think?

2-Should I just skip the EX-P and go right to EX? Is EX easy on/off and the same apply/remove method as EX-P?

If your car has just minor swirls the P-w-C with a polish pad should be enough...if not then I would use SSR1 with the polishing pad then P-w-C that's what I do just to make sure that I have taken out or reduced down the swirls....as for how long to leave on the car...I do the whole car then go back in remove it or you can work in panels if you like...it doesn't hurt to leave it on the car and won't be hard to remove..it will come off real easy no matter how long its on the car...

For the EX or EX-P use one or the other and you can layer either both...I prefer the EX as it has carnuba in it..as for how long it takes about an hour to setup, then you can remove it and layer...you do what to wait 24 hours for cure before adding paste wax....I apply this all by hand its easier for me but with a PC I would use a finishing pad

The times I've used SSR1 has been w/a white LC pad, 3 to spread then up to 5. I usually do a section at a time and then buff off w/a MF by hand to check my work and then I move on to the next section. I use the black LC pad for the EX-P and let it sit for about an hour and then buff off w/my older buffer that only goes up to speed2.5 using a MF bonnet and then wipe again w/a MF by hand. If you have the time let the EX-P sit for about 1hr but it is not necessary if your time is limited. Hope this helps. -Erasmo-

As noted above...

PWC- polishing pad. I apply this by panel and remove. Others may do this or apply to several panels or to the entire vehicle before removing. Try each method and see what you prefer.

EX or EX-P - Agree use one or the other. I apply and remove by hand (both application and removal a EASY), but if you want to use the PC, use a finishing pad for application. I guess you can remove via the PC also with a MF bonnet over one of your stiffer pads. I allow the product to haze (use the finger swipe test) and then remove. I've read where Steve has recommended longer haze times for better durability (and maybe even appearance).

IMO 2 or 3 (max) applications are good. After the third, the returns are questionable. Allow the product to "cure" for a minimum of 12 hours before subsequent applications. I generally allow longer "cure" times if applying a carnauba topper.

Mainly relax and enjoy yourself. This stuff isn't rocket science or brain surgery. We're "washing and waxing" albeit on a different level, but still...:) Be comfortable in the knowledge that using just a modicum of common sense, there is very little you will do that is un-doable.

I would use some PB PP then EX or EX-P if using a PC use a LC white pad with polish and a LC black or better Blue pad after putting on the EX wait 2 hrs to get the most out of it then wait 24 hrs and do it again thats the way I have been told to do it but if you have a new car stay away from SSR's unless you really need it but you should see great results with PP good luck!

Thanks, guys. I did a Klasse job last weekend on my wife's white Forester and it turned out great thanks to all the tips you guys gave me. I enjoyed doing it too!~

This VW GTI is red and it is my car, so I want to try the PB products on it.
