Applying Liquid Waxes

Howdy Folks,

I'm just now getting back into detailing my cars again after a 6 year hiatus. I've even tackled a few friends cars with great results but I have a question about liquid wax application. My LSP of choice lately has been 845. I have been using the CCS red foam applicators but it seems that no matter how sparingly I load the applicator, the pad soaks up most of the product. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a better suited applicator for liquid waxes?

I do have a PC 7424 but have yet to venture into applying the final step protection with it. Am I missing out? Along the same lines, what method should I use to apply a liquid wax? Straight back and forth or a criss-cross pattern? Lately I've been using about a 90% overlap, going fore and aft over the body panels...sound good, or???

Thanks! :autopia:

Try priming your pad first. Start with a clean pad, apply a large amount of product to the pad, spread it over the biggest majority of it, and use your fingers to rub it deeply into the foam. Once the pad had soaked up the product, you should only have to apply a couple drops per panel. This is known as the "Kevin Brown Method". There are also videos on Youtube that demonstrates this technique.

I use 845 a lot by PC application on a red LC pad. I use only a few drops on the pad and spread on speed 4. A little goes a long way. I can get about 50 applications out of one bottle.

Thanks Dr. Oldz. I actually have a 6.5: LC red that I have yet to even take out of the package. I'll give it a try this weekend when I apply the 845 to my wife's car.
